Mix things up, and swap the beach for the city when you add on a few days in Brisbane
Take it easy for a while when you book a holiday to Noosa. Less than a two-hour drive north of Brisbane, this extraordinary town is right at the top of the Sunshine Coast. Here, you’ll find beautiful beaches and seaside streets lined with cafés, restaurants, bakeries, and boutiques. And you can explore some of Australia's most incredible shorelines and laidback towns, with adventures in Noosa’s natural landscapes just minutes away.
Glide through lush wetlands when you go on a boat trip in the Noosa Everglades. You can hike along bushland paths in Noosa National Park, and gaze from the blue bay to mountainous peaks at Laguna Lookout. Drive over miles of open sands from North Shore to Rainbow Beach. Shop for arts, crafts and trinkets at Noosa Farmers Market. Visit the Original Eumundi Markets and enjoy a vibrant atmosphere, live music, tasty treats, and plenty of entertainment for the kids. And dine al fresco at one of the exceptional restaurants in Noosaville.
And no Noosa holiday would be complete without some beach time. You can swim, snorkel, surf, or stretch out on the sands at Main Beach. Find a quiet spot on Little Cove Beach, or search for the perfect baked treat among the streets of Sunshine Beach. Whether you go barefoot on the sands, stroll in sandals on the pavements, or don your hiking boots for the trails, Noosa always has a walk worth taking.
Want to extend your trip? You could drive south to sun-soaked Brisbane, or head north towards tropical Cairns – the gateway to the world-famous Great Barrier Reef. Speak to our Travel Specialists about planning your holiday to Noosa and beyond.
Noosa is a place to slow down and enjoy the view but, once that’s done, you’ll have no trouble filling your days. Get out on the surf from Main Beach, then browse the cafés, boutiques, and galleries of Hastings Street. Hike the coastal trails of Noosa National Park. Paddle-board, boat, or swim along the Noosa River. Or take a sea kayak or canoe trip through the waters of the Noosa Everglades, which is home to almost half of the bird species in Australia.
Wander the lanes and soak up the Sunday morning atmosphere of Noosa Farmers Market as live music fills the air. Or pick up local arts and crafts while the kids take a camel ride or hit the playground at the Original Eumundi Markets. Sit down to a tasty meal in the restaurants of Noosaville. Or find souvenirs from the boutiques of Gympie Terrace and Thomas Street.
Discover some of the best beaches on the Sunshine Coast. Make camp on Main Beach, whose gentle waves are ideal for family swimming or first-time surfers. Stroll the tree-lined boardwalk as the sun sets behind the waters of Noosa River. Then step off the sands and onto the hip promenade of Hastings Street, where chic stores and boutique galleries sit beside gourmet restaurants and relaxed cafés.
Sink your toes into the powdery sand of Sunshine Beach and explore its village streets between extravagant beach houses and beautiful blue seas. Find a spot to yourself in the quieter bay of Little Cove Beach, or watch experienced surfers tackle the waves at First Point. Head to the seemingly endless sands of North Shore and Rainbow Beach, where low tide opens up 50 miles of golden shore stretching past Teewah and the Colored Sands to Double Island Point and the Fraser Island ferry terminal.
Step from beach to bush in Noosa National Park and enjoy one of the natural jewels of the Sunshine Coast. Here, almost 10,000 acres of forests and heathlands are interspersed with dunes and beaches to create a network of hiking trails that plunge you into lush Queensland country and offer incredible views across the coast.
Wander the Noosa Headlands to Dolphin Point and spot brush-turkeys and black cockatoos or, if you’re lucky, you might even see a snoozing koala in a eucalyptus tree. Look out to sea from the rocky cliffs, or investigate the rock pools of Tea Tree and Granite Bays. Peer from Boiling Pot Lookout to scan the water for dolphins and migrating whales. Watch the surf explode into white spray below Hell's Gates. Or, discover the vast wetlands and wildlife of Noosa Everglades when you glide through the waterways in a canoe or kayak.
Pleasant temperatures all year and 300 annual sunny days make Noosa a great place to visit whatever date the calendar shows. But April to November is ideal if you’re looking for cooler, drier days for outdoor activities. Average temperatures range from 15°C to 25°C in the shoulder periods of April to May and September to November, then drop a little during the Australian winter between June and August.
December to March is much hotter and humid, with temperatures rising towards 30°C. There’s more rain at this time of year, too, but Noosa holidays are still popular as people take advantage of the warm seas. Want to immerse yourself in a local event? Several festivals are held between April and June, including Noosa Eat & Drink Festival, the Noosa Ultimate Sports Fest, and the Noosa Long Weekend.
