Hudson Valley

Hudson Valley holidays

HUDSON VALLEY? VA VA VOOM!

Just a 90-minute drive north of the Big Apple, you’ll find the ideal getaway from the hustle and bustle – the beautiful Hudson Valley and, more specifically, Dutchess County. Just hop on a train from Grand Central Terminal or Penn Station’s new Moynihan Train Hall, and enjoy a scenic journey along the Hudson River. In no time at all, you’ll soon be surrounded by the Hudson Valley’s stunning countryside.

Nature-lovers will be in their element here, thanks to the scenic beauty of the Hudson River and the surrounding mountains. There’s an abundance of outdoor activities. You can walk the Appalachian Trail, go kayaking, and hike or bike along the Walkway Over the Hudson. The world’s longest elevated pedestrian bridge stretches for more than two kilometres and connects dozens of hiking trails, where you can enjoy amazing vistas. Or, for the ultimate views, why not take to the skies in an open-air biplane ride at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome?

Holidays to the Hudson Valley are also great for foodies. At the helm of the food scene, there’s The Culinary Institute of America – known as the “CIA”. The world’s premier culinary college, this place has three student-staffed restaurants, and trains chefs from all over the world. Elsewhere, you can enjoy tasting sessions at wineries, breweries, distilleries and cideries, all nestled within a splendid countryside setting.

The area has plenty of history, too. President Franklin D. Roosevelt – the only president elected to four terms served from 1932 to 1945 -  was born in Hyde Park. His home and estate where the Roosevelts hosted the King and Queen of England in June 1939 are open for guided tours by the National Park Service. And, just next door, you’ll also find the state-of-the-art FDR Presidential Library and Museum – America’s first presidential library.

Whether you’re seeking outdoor adventures, dining delights or cultural sights, a trip to the Hudson Valley is sure to be one to remember. And why not spend a few extra days in New York City, while you’re there? Speak to our Travel Specialists to tailor-make your trip.
