Vilanculos Holidays

MOZAM…BEACH

Just a one-hour flight from the capital of Maputo, holidays to the Vilanculos district are your time to relax and enjoy the coast. Beautiful beaches and warm seas beside wildlife and marine sanctuaries form the ideal destination for slowing things down and appreciating the world around you.

Spend mornings kitesurfing through the waves or diving in quiet waters around unspoiled coral. Grab lunch at a beachside café and pass the afternoon on the sand, on horseback, or crashing through the surf on a jet-ski. Sail to spot whales and dugongs, go fishing for black marlin, and take a game drive to find giraffes, zebras, and eland. Sample freshly caught seafood from the fisherman's market and watch the sunset from sand dunes after a traditional dhow cruise. After nightfall, find a shoreline bar and listen to the waves as you sip cocktails, or follow the music and dance until late.

Vilanculos is an incredible destination and the jumping-off point for the stunning islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago, the oldest marine park in Mozambique. Visit the archipelago on a cruise from the mainland or get a true castaway feel when you set sail and stay for the night.

Not just one of the best beach locations in Mozambique, but one of the best in Africa, Vilanculos and the Bazaruto Archipelago are where the traditional meets the modern, and the beauty of nature meets the lively entertainment of an oceanside resort.

Things to do

The first thing to do in Vilanculos is slow down. Everything you need is accessible by foot, tuk-tuk, or boat, and the laidback vibe is all part of the appeal. Horse ride or cycle on the beach, sail in the Indian Ocean to spot whales and dugongs or visit the nearby Bazaruto Islands. Scuba, snorkel, or try out the many watersports available. Taste the day’s fresh catch from the afternoon market.

Sample the blended Portuguese-African cuisine showcased in local restaurants. See eland, zebra, wildebeest, and giraffe in the wetland habitats of Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary. Or forget it all and sit sipping drinks by your resort pool until the sun fades and the stars appear.
