Search for unique gifts in Larimer Square’s boutiques and the luxury outlets of 16th Street Mall
Combine city culture with Colorado country and choose Denver as your doorway to the Rocky Mountains
Standing 5,280 feet above sea level, Denver has been the heart of Colorado since gold was struck at Cherry Creek in the 1850s. Holidays to Denver place you in a city filled with art, and entertainment with 300 days of sunshine a year and the dramatic Rocky Mountains as their backdrop.
Fly direct from London, connect via major US cities, or build Denver into a road trip itinerary when you hire a car or RV and head through the great American countryside in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains.
Denver’s diverse attractions make it an ideal destination for families, groups, or couples looking to enjoy the energy and attractions of the city alongside the adventures of the wilderness beyond.
Drive just 30 minutes from downtown Denver to the foothills of the Rockies. There, find the Colorado Music Hall of Fame beside the red sandstone trails of Red Rocks Park & Amphitheater and the unique concert venue within.
Stay in the city and catch a baseball game at Coors Field. Get up close with Amur tigers at Denver Zoo. Or uncover the mysteries of prehistory at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Grab a bite and a drink, stop in for comedy or live music, or search for souvenirs at Larimer Square, once home to Buffalo Bill and now a bustling entertainment district beside the multi-venue complex of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
Find art of every style and era at the Denver Art Museum, the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art, and the Clyfford Still Museum, or simply stroll through the pedestrian precinct of 16th Street Mall as it’s illuminated by over a million lights each night.
Denver is a truly spellbinding city, one mile high, and the centre of Colorado.
Arts, entertainment, food, drink, shopping, and family activities are everywhere you turn in downtown Denver while Colorado country adventures are waiting just beyond the city limits. Head to City Park, where free jazz concerts fill the summer air.
Explore the region’s history from the Ice Age through the Gold Rush to 20th Century space travel at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Browse the galleries, boutiques, and eateries of Larimer Square and the 16th Street Mall. Take in a show in the Denver Center for the Performing Art. Discover the future of sustainable practices at Denver Botanic Garden. Look across the city from the viewing platform on the drum of Colorado State Capitol’s gilded dome. Sit in the shade at Civic Center Park, see dollars printed at the United States Mint, or head to a game at Coors Field, home to the Colorado Rockies baseball club.
Discover the creative side of Colorado in Denver’s wide array of galleries, museums, and performance spaces. Wander the boutique galleries of regenerated Larimer Square before stepping through the doors of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts to find concert halls, theatres, and an opera house hosting Broadway shows, live music, and local productions.
Uncover exhibits from around the world at the Denver Art Museum, where the city’s nationally renowned Native American collection sits beside colonial works and a diverse modern art collection with pieces from today’s biggest names. Cross the street to the minimalist Clyfford Still Museum, and immerse yourself in work from one of the 20th century's most influential painters, before exploring a century of decorative art at the neighbouring Kirkland Museum.
No stay in Denver would be complete without heading into the foothills of the world-famous Rocky Mountains. Drive less than 30 minutes to reach the Front Range where rugged hiking trails begin lifting you to spectacular viewing points, or travel only an hour more to the 265,000-acre preservation area of the Rocky Mountain National Park which has attracted millions of visitors every year since its official designation in 1915.
Explore the sweeping forested slopes on the eastern side of the Continental Divide or press on over the peak to the glaciers in the west. Hire a car, plan an RV adventure, or take a guided tour. However you see them, these inspiring mountains are not to be missed.
July and August are the busiest months in Denver as temperatures rise to 30°C and weekly festivals attract visitors from all over the world to Colorado’s capital city. Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Denver Country Fair, and Denver BBQ Festival are just some of the events waiting to greet summer visitors to the Mile High City.
Temperatures stay warm through September and October and fewer crowds make this an excellent time to visit with large events continuing in the city until the days turn cold in November. Winter is Denver’s quietest time, as nights fall below freezing, but visitor numbers pick up quickly again from the thaw in March and April ready for the city to come alive once more in spring. May and June bring higher rainfall than the Autumn months but there are plenty of intriguing places to duck inside when a shower comes.
