Central Canada

Manitoba

MAKE TRACKS FOR MANITOBA

Canada’s central province, Manitoba is one of the country’s most impressive regions. It’s sandwiched between Ontario and Saskatchewan, with the US border to the south and Nunavut to the north. A holiday to Manitoba serves up all sorts of dramatic landscapes, ranging from subarctic tundra and alpine forests, to rolling prairies and glass-like lakes.

Holidays to Manitoba are ideal for lovers of the great outdoors, as you can take your pick from more than 80 provincial parks. And, best of all, you can visit the “Polar Bear Capital of the World”. Churchill is famous for being the only town on the planet where humans and polar bears co-exist. Between July and November, the sea ice on Hudson Bay – where the bears normally hunt for seals – melts. This means thousands of polar bears come ashore every summer to preserve energy for the winter, giving you the opportunity for a truly unique wildlife-watching experience.

Meanwhile, about 1,200 miles to the south, Winnipeg is Manitoba’s provincial capital and cultural hub. This exciting city is crammed with galleries, museums and theatres, so it’s the perfect contrast to Churchill. Couples and families alike will love Assiniboine Park Zoo, you'll see four-legged residents include moose, snow leopards, wolves and polar bears, who call the rehabilitation centre home. If you’re eager to explore the city further, why not hire bikes or jump on a Winnipeg Trolley Tour and explore the surrounding neighbourhoods? Or, if you simply want to relax, you can unwind with a treatment in one of Winnipeg’s luxury spas.

Our holidays to Manitoba can be tailored to suit you. So, whether you’re desperate to see Churchill’s polar bears and beluga whales, or you’re drawn to Winnipeg’s top attractions, we’ve got you covered. Why not extend your trip with some time in Riding Mountain National Park, just three hours from Winnipeg it's a great place to chill out or enjoy a range of activities on the water or seeing animals? You can explore by boat, helicopter or in a specially-designed vehicle – or why not stay at a lodge in the wilderness and embark on a walking tour?

There’s even more wildlife to be found off-shore. The western waters of Hudson Bay are home to more than 55,000 beluga whales, so the chances of seeing some are always good. But the odds increase further in summer, when 3,000 of them migrate to the Churchill River to feed, mate and give birth. You can get a closer look at these ghostly-white whales when you book a boat trip or kayak tour.
