Culture-seekers can admire innovative works at Seattle Art Museum, walk around the Olympic Sculpture Park, or take in a show at Benaroya Hall. July and August are the peak months for Washington State holidays, with dry weather and temperatures averaging 25°C. Plus, this time of year sees many of the state’s big events and festivals. Orca-watching season around Puget Sound is also at its height over this period.

If you’re keen to avoid the crowds, though, May, June and September give the best balance of good weather and quieter attractions. September is particularly good, as the fresh autumn air is ideal for outdoor activities.

Rain can come at any time in Washington State, but the wettest months are usually December and January. Temperatures rarely drop below freezing in the cities but, thanks to its mountainous terrain, Washington State enjoys a strong ski season in many of its parks and countryside areas.
