Baltimore holidays

BALTIMORE? BRING IT ON.

Over on America’s eastern side, the city of Baltimore is both vibrant and eclectic. Roughly an hours drive from Washington, DC, it sits right on the coast, separated from the Delmarva Peninsula by just a slim stretch of water. This prime location made Baltimore a big player in US military history. And, most famously, it’s known as being the birthplace of the country’s national anthem.

But, whilst historic sites like Fort McHenry and the Washington Monument make for a fascinating daytrip, there’s more to Baltimore than just war history. In fact, this is a city that holds ‘hon’ culture close to its heart. Dramatized in films such as John Waters’ hit – Hairspray - it references the Beehive-haired ladies that lived here between the Fifties and Seventies. Attend one of the annual, themed festivals to indulge in some nostalgia, or take a movie sightseeing tour around the Hampden neighbourhood.

When it comes to Baltimore’s culinary offerings, you’re onto a winner if you’re partial to some seafood, as the city’s known for its selection of fantastic crab restaurants. Better still, you can wash it down with a pint of National Bohemian – or ‘Natty Boh’ – a refreshing larger with Baltimore origins. Between meals, you can take your pick of exciting attractions to visit. Dive into African American history at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, see over 1,200 Matisse paintings at the Baltimore Museum of Art, or head to Oriole Park at Camden Yards to watch an action-packed baseball game.

However you choose to fill your time, you’re bound to be impressed by Baltimore. To find out more about USA holidays, give one of our Travel Specialists a call, or come and visit us in store.

Museums & historic sites

In recent times, Baltimore has transformed into somewhat of a hipster destination. But, it’s also a great city to hit up if you’re wanting to dive into American history. And, a great place to start is the Washington Monument – not to be confused with the one in DC. Climb over 200 steps to reach the top of this colossal, marble column, before dropping by the museum to learn about its construction.
