An ideal city break destination, there are tons of things for you to do during your Baltimore holiday. If you’re after a quintessential American experience, watching a baseball game should be top of your itinerary. Take a trip to Camden Yards to cheer on the Orioles, making sure to sample some classic game grub from a food stand.

From here, you’re only a short bus or train ride away from some of the city’s top galleries and museums. Check out the extensive collection of works by Henri Matisse at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Or, if you’re visiting with little ones, head to the Maryland Science Centre to search for constellations and see dinosaurs come to life on the IMAX screen. 

In recent times, Baltimore has transformed into somewhat of a hipster destination. But, it’s also a great city to hit up if you’re wanting to dive into American history. And, a great place to start is the Washington Monument – not to be confused with the one in DC. Climb over 200 steps to reach the top of this colossal, marble column, before dropping by the museum to learn about its construction.

Another fantastic attraction for history-lovers is Fort McHenry. Located on the Locust Point Peninsular, here you can uncover all there is to know about the 1814 Battle of Baltimore. See how it inspired the words behind America’s national anthem, before taking a stroll through the grounds to enjoy views of the tranquil Patapsco River.

Anyone who loves good food and great beer will be right at home in Baltimore. The city is home to several fantastic breweries, with places like Canton and Brewers Hill being particular hotspots. Visit the National Brewing Company building – where beer was first canned in 1829 – before tasting your way around the best independent breweries in town.

Baltimore is also known for its treat-filled bakeries. Pick up a scrumptious cheesecake from the Codetta Bake Shop, or try some American favourites at Dangerously Delicious Pies in Canton.
And, when it’s time for your evening meal, you’ll want to head to one of the city’s amazing seafood restaurants to sample some famous Maryland crab.

Spring and summer are excellent seasons to plan your Baltimore holiday. There are loads of events taking place across the city, from film festivals, to Pride parades and fourth of July fireworks. And, with weather not too dissimilar from the UK, you can be sure of warm weather and plenty of long, sunny days.

This time of year is also ideal for a USA roadtrip. Continue over to Washington DC and down the East Coast or, for a truly epic adventure, drive across the country to California.
Alternatively, if you decide to visit Baltimore in autumn or winter, you’ll be in for a treat, too.  Enjoy the beautiful colours of America’s fall, or wait until December to soak up the festive atmosphere.
