Baton Rouge Holidays

BRING ON BATON ROUGE

Louisiana’s capital city Baton Rouge is a historic metropolis, with a diverse culture and plenty of picturesque green spaces. With its vibrant nightlife, incredible Cajun cuisine, and long-standing live music scene, Baton Rouge is a must-visit during a holiday to the Southern states.

Sitting beside the Mississippi River and surrounded by parks, swamps and springs, visitors to the city are never too far from nature. A great place to visit is BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Centre. Located in the south of the city, here you can enjoy over 100 acres of natural habitat along carefully-paved walking paths. Look for bugs, birds and tortoises on the swamp grounds, or to get away from creepy-crawlies, pay a visit to one of the nearby golf courses for a round or two. You should also check out Blackwater Conservation Area. Not only is this a popular place for hiking and fishing, but you can also take canoe and kayak tours down the neighbouring Comite River.

If you want to spend your time in Baton Rouge soaking up its highly-celebrated Southern atmosphere, then make your way to the centre of the city. Discover historical monuments such as the castle-like building of the Old State Capitol, or peruse ancient artefacts at Capitol Park Museum. In the evenings, catching some live blues music in Downtown is a must. Or, if you want to mix things up, head to The Chimes to try some classic Cajun-inspired dishes, or pop into Hayride Scandal for whiskey-tasting in a vintage-style speakeasy.

There are endless things to see and do in Baton Rouge, no matter when you go- from March Mardi Gras celebrations, to April’s acclaimed Jazz Festival, and even its very own Oyster Festival in August. To see just what this city has to offer, speak to one of our Travel Specialists and start planning your Baton Rouge holiday.
