Nashville holidays offer an eclectic mix of Southern charm, great food and fantastic live music. In the heart of the Deep South, Nashville is the capital of Tennessee. It’s also the home of country music, and is known as Music City – so your Nashville getaway is guaranteed to give you country vibes, with cowboy boots and live music on every corner. Head Downtown and you’ll be immersed in a world of vibrant lights, impressive skyscrapers, and a growing foodie scene that gives other states a run for their money.
For country music fans, a trip to Nashville wouldn’t be complete without visiting the iconic Music Row, traditionally known as the heart and soul of the nation’s music industry. Your Nashville holiday should definitely include a trip to one of the city’s plentiful music museums. Or why not watch a live show at the famous Grand Ole Opry House? This 4,400-seat theatre still hosts TV specials today and is known to attract a host of famous country celebs.
Even if country music isn’t your thing, don’t worry – you’ll find a range of activities on your Nashville trip. You can enjoy the local zoo, stroll around one of the city’s 108 parks, or join a fascinating walking tour. Nashville holidays are great for history buffs, too, as you can tick off the historical Belle Meade Historic Site and Winery, or tour Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage, a historical museum.
Looking to explore further? Why not take a daytrip to Memphis – the birthplace of Elvis Presley – or swing by Lynchburg and grab a bottle of whiskey from the world-famous Jack Daniel’s distillery? Whatever you’re looking for, a Nashville holiday ticks all the boxes. And it won’t be long before you’re hooked on the sights and sounds of this welcoming Southern city.
If country music isn’t your thing, don’t worry. You can take in the sights and sounds of Nashville by taking a walking tour or, if you want to chill out, simply hop on a boat tour. Perhaps you could spend an afternoon at Nashville Zoo, or delve into one of the city’s vibrant neighbourhoods where you can discover unique shops, indie coffeehouses, craft breweries and new distilleries. When you want a break from the hustle and bustle, stroll into one of Nashville’s green spaces – there are 108 parks here, covering a whopping 12,000 acres.
If you’re into history, why not spend some time at Belle Meade Historic Site and Winery? It’s one of the largest and wealthiest private estates in Nashville. Or visit Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage a historical museum located in Davidson County.
A Nashville holiday serves up plenty of things to do for country music fans. Heading to the iconic Music Row is a must, as the area is renowned for being the heart and soul of the nation’s music industry. Take a tour of the famous RCA Studio B – the recording facility that has been credited for being the birthplace of the unique ‘Nashville sound’ that defined the Sixties.
Another stop on your Nashville break must be the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, where you can take a trip through musical history with exhibitions dedicated to Johnny Cash, George Jones and Willie Nelson. You should also stop by the world-famous Grand Ole Opry House, where there are often concerts and TV specials, as well as regular Grand Ole Opry radio shows, which have been broadcast from here since 1925.
The city offers a range of shopping options, if you’re in need of some retail therapy – and no trip to Nashville would be complete without picking up a pair of cowboy boots!
Head Downtown to Lower Broadway and you’ll find all sorts of local and independent stores, selling everything from clothes and guitars, to musical memorabilia. And, of course, there are dozens of stores selling high-quality leather cowboy boots. Alternatively, if trendy boutiques are more your thing, make tracks for Hillsboro Village – the chic shops here are all about jewellery, accessories and furniture.
Got a car? Head out of town to one of Nashville’s large malls, like Opry Mills or Green Hills. These popular shopping centres have a variety of big-name outlets, including Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors and Tiffany & Co.
The best time for a getaway to Nashville is between March and May, when the weather is warm and sunny, and the nights are pleasantly cool. At this time of year, the temperatures range from 16°C to 26°C. There’s also a lot going on in spring, with March seeing Tin Pan South – the world's largest songwriter festival – while Awesome April means there’s a major event every weekend throughout the month.
By June, things start getting a little more hot and humid as temperatures rise to 30°C, while peak summer – July and August – is not for the faint-hearted. If you decide to visit Nashville during this time, you’ll experience the real sticky heat of a Southern summer. By September and October, though, both the humidity and heat begin to drop, so it’s more comfortable for sightseeing. October also sees dozens of art events in Nashville, and gives you the chance to experience a proper American Halloween.
