Zambia holidays are best for wildlife-lovers who are keen to get off the beaten track
Full of wonder and natural beauty, Zambia holidays offer an escape into the wilderness. Often overlooked in favour of its neighbours, this stunning country will entrance even the most seasoned travellers, with its abundant wildlife, lush wetlands and laidback vibe. And, thanks to Zambia’s under-the-radar status, you can look forward to fantastic safari experiences, without the crowds.
A highlight of any Zambia holiday is sure to be Victoria Falls. One of the most impressive waterfalls on the planet, this jaw-dropping landmark straddles the Zimbabwe-Zambia border. Prepare to be amazed as you watch the rushing Zambezi River cascade over the cliffs, plunging down into the canyons below. Known as the Mosi-oa-Tunya – meaning ‘smoke that thunders’ – Victoria Falls is a must-see during your Zambia trip. You’ll be able to spot bright rainbows through the mist and, in Livingstone, you can even go bungee-jumping or zip-lining over the falls.
When it’s not gushing downwards with incredible force, the Zambezi River actually offers a fantastic way to see Zambia. Its calm waters are ideal for boat tours, from which you’ll be able to admire the wilderness and spot hippos, crocodiles and elephants. But, if it’s wildlife you’re after, it’s best to go on safari. Zambia safaris are less in demand than those in Kenya and South Africa, meaning you can expect intimate lodges and small-group Jeep drives, as your knowledgeable guide points out exotic animals.
The oldest and biggest park in Zambia, Kafue National Park covers an area the size of Wales and – perhaps unsurprisingly – boasts some of the most pristine landscape in the country. You can look forward to seeing cheetahs, wild dogs, rare antelopes and the ever-elusive leopard in these parts. Or, for something a little different, you could go on a walking safari in South Luangwa National Park. Alternatively, book your Zambia safari for Lower Zambezi National Park. Here, you can go on game drives and guided walks, as well as fishing and canoeing trips.
However you want to travel, we’ll help you plan the perfect getaway. You could go on safari as part of a Zambia tour, or even turn your trip into a multi-centre holiday with some time in Tanzania or Botswana. Speak to our Travel Specialists to find out more.
