Colorado holidays

CAN-DO COLORADO

With trendy towns and cities, and a landscape bursting with natural splendour, the state of Colorado is a sight to behold. From green pine forests and yellow meadows, to granite-toned mountains and bright blue lakes, it’s one of America’s most idyllic destinations. Whether you want a holiday that’s all about trekking up the tallest peaks, or you’d rather kick-back in a cosy, lake-side log cabin, a holiday to Colorado’s got you covered.

If you’re looking for an action-packed adventure during your trip, a visit to one of Colorado’s national parks is a must. You can hike or horse-back ride through the iconic Rocky Mountains, or test your nerve by rock-climbing up the daunting cliff face of the Black Canyon. Another must-see natural wonder can be found at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Set against the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, you can walk across golden sands and marvel at the wild expanse that lies below. And, for an experience like no other, extend your stay and camp overnight for a chance to see the Milky Way in all its glory.

Colorado’s cities also have plenty to offer. The capital, Denver, is home to a wide range of art museums, concert venues and theatres to keep you occupied during your stay. Or, if you’re a foodie, a trip to Fort Collins will leave you far from disappointed. Packed with quirky cafes, wine bars and fine-dining restaurants, its vintage-style streets are especially suited to couples looking for a romantic retreat. And, during the summer, the nearby Horsetooth Reservoir hosts loads of fun water activities, from wild-swimming and paddle boarding, to sailing and water-skiing.

There’s so much to explore in Colorado. Whether you’re planning to spend all your time in this incredible state, or you want to visit as part of a multi-centre holiday, our Travel Specialists can help you pick out your ideal itinerary.

Wildlife

When it comes to wildlife, the Rocky Mountains are famous for their sizable population of bighorn sheep. Mainly residing in the alpine parts of Wallowa Mountains, you’ll be able to spot their large, curled horns and distinctive, white rump patch. Or, if you’re walking round the meadows and forests of the park, you might see groups of wild elk or, even, some solitary, seven-foot-tall moose.

Elsewhere in Colorado you may also come across a mighty black bear. Much friendlier than the infamous grizzly, you’re most likely to find one along the Mosca Pass Trail over in the Great Sand Dunes National Park.
