Sip and sample your way around the lush green valleys of California and Oregon on a 13-day Pacific Northwest Wine Trail. Begin by driving over the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco to Sausalito and the Napa Valley beyond.
Tour vineyards in St. Helena and Oakville, taste Michelin star food in Rutherford and explore the wineries of the Silverado Trail. See geysers at hot springs in Calistoga, spend two nights in the riverside town of Redding, and graze your way through the estates of Rogue Valley. Take time to enjoy the serene beauty of Crater Lake before wandering the markets and museums of Eugene.
Finally, wind your way through the Willamette Valley pairing fine wines with farm-to-fork food on your way towards Portland. Add pre and post-nights in two of America’s most cosmopolitan cities or continue your holiday with a wilderness escape in Washington, our Travel Specialists will show you how.
At Travelbag, we'll take care of every element of your holiday. Your flights, car hire, accommodation and even driving directions are all included – so you can look forward to an easy-peasy getaway.
Collect your car from the airport or downtown depot. Mark the start of your adventure with a Golden Gate Bridge photo from Battery East Vista then cross the suspended roadway into Sausalito. Stop to explore the Mediterranean-style seaside community, grab lunch, and enjoy views of the San Francisco skyline before driving north around the bay and into the world-famous Napa Valley. Choose to stay in Napa itself, a lively city where craft stores and art galleries stand beside cafés, bars, and restaurants, or head straight to a valley resort to wine and dine among the vines.

Start the day with an indulgent brunch at the magnificent Domaine Carneros Château where sparkling wine, smoked salmon, and caviar are served on a terrace overlooking the gardens, lake, and vineyards. Unless you have specific plans today, we recommend getting off the highway and onto the less-travelled Silverado Trail to tour wineries including Joseph Phelps, Signorello, ZD Wines, and the cabernet sauvignon district of Stags Leap. Tonight, one of the best ways to say goodbye to the Napa Valley is with a luxury dinner and rolling views aboard the century-old Napa Valley Wine Train. Or simply choose your favourite winery restaurant and relax as the sun sets and the stars come out to shine.

Make your first stop outside Napa in the hot springs and mud bath destination of Calistoga. Watch as the Old Faithful Geyser of California erupts then head to the mediaeval-style Tuscan castle winery of Castello di Amorosa. Feeling active? You could spend the morning hiking to the summit of Mount St. Helena for incredible views across the valley. If you have time, stop again an hour outside Redding to discover the 1,000-year-old winemaking techniques of Trappist-Cistercian monks at New Clairvaux monastery vineyard in the small town of Vina. Check-in at your accommodation in the riverside city and step out for a sumptuous steak dinner at Cattlemens Steakhouse.

Continue north from Redding to the Rogue Valley. Stop first at the Irvine & Roberts Vineyards in Ashland for a tasting of pinot noir and chardonnay with mountain views. Check-in at your hotel or estate lodgings and relax ready for another vineyard voyage tomorrow.

Take a morning away from the vineyards to find the volcanic pool of Crater Lake, the deepest in America. Hike the rim of the pristine blue lake and perhaps even cruise to Wizard Island. Descend from the mountains to join the Umpqua Valley wine trail. Taste tempranillo and Albariño at Abacela Winery in Roseburg before heading toward the Willamette Valley and Oregon’s second-largest city of Eugene.
