Overview

A trip to Australia can feel like an opportunity to tick every box, but why not slow down and take your time, immerse yourself and truly explore. This circular self-drive route from Sydney takes you to cities, beaches and wilderness. Get lost in the hustle and bustle of Sydney before retreating to some of the most beautiful areas New South Wales has to offer. Spend four nights in the Sydney seaside suburb of Bondi Beach. Famed for its trendy vibe and surf hotspots Bondi offers much more than a haven for backpackers - scratch beneath the surface and find the true Bondi. Tour the beaches with a local, try your hand at surfing and sample delicious coffee at one of the many beachside cafes, while watching the world go by.

While the Hunter Valley is often done as a day trip from Sydney we have included three nights here to ensure you see beyond the wine tasting and get the opportunity to truly relax in these lush surroundings. The Blue Mountains region is next and packed full of activities, jump on an e-bike, walk the trails and witness spectacular views from the lookout points during your three night stay. Your final stop takes you south to Paperbark Camp, located in Jervis Bay. This unique bush retreat, modelled on African safari camps is a true escape. Relax in your tented accommodation on the look out for kangaroos or get out and explore the beautiful beaches and natural wonders of the area.

Days 1-4

Bondi Beach, Sydney

Arriving in Sydney you will be taken to your hotel in the beachside suburb of Bondi. One of the worlds most famous beaches Bondi is synonymous with the Aussie surfer lifestyle. Head down to this scenic stretch of beach and see the huge waves and clear ocean for yourself. Book a beach tour with a local and learn more about what its like to live in the area, try your hand at surfing and visit the best coffee shops and cafes for a true Sydney-sider experience. Visit the nearby suburb of Coogee Beach and take the coastal walk back to Bondi, followed by some delicious fish and chips.

Sydney itself is only a short train ride away, journey into the city and explore Circular Quay, book a boat tour of the harbour, or if you're feeling adventurous join BridgeClimb Sydney and walk along the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge for spectacular views across the city.

With four nights to explore you have plenty of time to soak up everything Sydney and its surrounds have to offer, as well as find time to kick back and relax on this endless shoreline.

Days 4-7

Hunter Valley

Time to leave the city behind and head north to the Hunter Valley, famed for its delicious food and excellent wine. Australia's oldest wine growing region, the Hunter Valley offers charming hotels in a peaceful environment as well as exceptional dining experiences and world-class wine tasting.

While there are plenty of restaurants and wineries to keep you busy, there is much to explore beyond the vineyards. See this spectacular region from the air on a helicopter experience or book a hot air balloon to witness the vineyards at sunrise, followed by champagne and a gourmet breakfast.

Explore nearby Yengo National Park, a wilderness area off the tourist trail and home to walking trails, Aboriginal sites and part of the Gondwana rainforest, this beautiful region is perfect for a day away from the vines. Alternatively, spend a day rejuvenating the body and soul in the hotel spa, relax in the outdoor mineral pools or enjoy a tailored spa treatment for the ultimate indulgence.

Days 7-10

Blue Mountains

Leaving the city behind, today you will collect your car and drive out to the Blue Mountains, where you will spend three nights exploring this UNESCO world heritage area. Staying in a beautiful boutique hotel at the edge of the Jamison Valley, you will have spectacular views of the mountains and lush rainforest valleys. With access to a fine dining restaurant and a full spa at the hotel's sister property, Lilianfels Resort, your stay will offer lots of opportunity for relaxation.

Named after the natural blue haze created by the eucalyptus forest, the Blue Mountains is home to walking trails, cliff top lookouts, waterfalls and sandstone tablelands. This captivating wilderness region can be experienced on foot, by bicycle or as part of a tour, rent an e-bike to explore further or for adrenaline seekers abseiling, rock climbing and canyoning are all activities available to pre-book.

For something more sedate take a walk around the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden at Mount Tomah or learn about the Aboriginal history of the area with a Walkabout tour, ran by Aboriginal guides who will share the ancient stories of the area.

Days 10-13

Paperbark Camp, Jervis Bay

Last stop on your journey is a three night stay in Paperbark Camp, a unique tented camp in the Shoalhaven Region, south of Sydney and close to the beautiful town of Jervis Bay. Built in the style of an African safari lodge, Paperbark Camp has canvas tents built above the ground and surrounded by eucalyptus and paperbarks. Wrap around decking provides the perfect spot to relax and the open air ensuite allows for some kangaroo spotting right from the tub!

At Paperbark Camp you can kick back and switch off, using this eco-conscious retreat as a place for pure relaxation, but with three nights here you have plenty of time to head out and explore the Jervis Bay area. Jump in your car and visit the small town of Huskisson and Jervis Bay village, located in the Booderee National Park, and with Jervis Bay National Park and Jervis Bay Marine Park right on the doorstep, this is a nature lovers paradise, home to a wide variety of wildlife as well as epic scenery and stunning beaches.

After three nights here you will return to Sydney to commence with your onward plans.
