Overview

The Golden Triangle is made up of three of India’s key cities; Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Each with their own unique look and feel, this journey will show you some famous sites, including the Red Fort, Old Delhi’s Great Mosque and, of course, the iconic Taj Mahal.

Throughout the trip you'll have plenty of opportunities to indulge in the flavours of India, including an optional food trail walk in Old Delhi or a cooking class in Jaipur.

With an English-speaking guide throughout, learn more about this ancient country and how its traditions mingle with the modern-day world.

Day 1:

Arrive into Delhi

Welcome to Delhi! Today you will land at Delhi International Airport, where you’ll be met by a representative and escorted to your first hotel. Settle in and get ready for a city that seamlessly combines ancient traditions with modern ideas. From British boulevards to striking palaces, Delhi will surely leave you in awe.

Day 2:

Delhi

Make sure you have a big breakfast this morning because you have a jam-packed day in Delhi.

The first place to visit on the list is Raj Ghat, where the famous Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial is held. This memorial site is a simple square of black marble surrounded by beautiful, manicured gardens. Learn more about his life and why he was so important to the people of India.

From the banks of the river Yamuna, you will jump back into your transport and drive past the Red Fort, one of the most viewed attractions in Delhi. This building dates back to the 17th century and gets its name from the red sandstone it’s built from.

*Please note that the Red Fort is closed on Mondays*

Once you have seen the Red Fort, you will head to your next location, India’s largest mosque, the Jama Masjid. This building can hold up to 20,000 worshippers at any time, and the internal architecture is stunning. At this point, if you’d like another mode of transport, jump on one of the local rickshaws and experience this area in a truly unique way!

After your exhilarating rickshaw ride, the next port of call is the India Gate, built to honour the 80,000 Indian soldiers who died in the First World War. Each soldier’s name is inscribed into the gate, and it is one of the most recognisable structures in Delhi. You may also see the similarity to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris!

Heading into the government section of the city, you will visit the president of India’s home in the city, Rashtrapati Bhavan, whilst also driving past the Parliament Houses and Government Buildings.

The last place on today’s itinerary is the Lotus Temple, one of India’s most striking pieces of architecture. Completed in 1986, the building resembles an unfolding lotus flower with buildings divided into unique sections. A site to marvel at and one that has won many architectural awards!

If all of the above is still not enough for you, why not join the optional activity of a food trail walk in Old Delhi in the evening? From spicy aloo sabzi to sweet jalebi treats, you’ll understand why so many people flock to India for the food!

Day 3:

Delhi - Agra

Today you will check out of your Delhi hotel and start making your way to Agra, home to the iconic Taj Mahal.

Once you have checked into your hotel and had a quick freshen-up, you will be taken to the Agra Fort, another UNESCO heritage site in the area. This impressive structure was built in the 16th and 17th centuries by successive rulers of the Mughal Dynasty. Originally built as a military structure, it was later used as a prison after Shah Jahan’s son seized power and overruled his father. A building with history oozing from every brick!

Day 4:

Agra - Jaipur

Before the rest of the city has woken up, you will make your way to the iconic Taj Mahal to witness the beauty of this palace during sunrise.

Often considered the pinnacle of Mughal art in India, the Taj Mahal has drawn people to visit it for centuries, and it’s no wonder why. Declared as a world heritage site, this building was described as “the jewel of Muslim art in India” by UNESCO, and as you view it in the morning light, you’ll understand why.

Once you have marvelled for long enough, head back to your hotel for breakfast before hitting the road again to Jaipur.

On arriving at Rajasthan’s capital, Jaipur, you will check into your city-centre hotel and have some much-needed time for relaxation. Spend your afternoon at leisure, where you can wander through the city's colourful streets, learning more about this incredible culture and what makes it tick.

Head to the heart of the city, where the City’s Palace still stands, surrounded by markets and bazaars below.

Day 5:

Jaipur

Start the day with a leisurely breakfast before discovering everything Jaipur has to offer.

The first stop is the City Palace Museum which has an impressive collection of antiques and artefacts from throughout the ages. Discover the clothes that used to be worn and head to the art gallery to gaze upon a collection of miniatures paintings right up to huge, decorated carpets.

From here, you will travel to the Birla Temple, built in 1988 using pure white marble. This relatively modern temple was dedicated to the Hindu gods of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi and features intricate carvings throughout.

The rest of your time in Jaipur can be spent at leisure discovering hidden gems.

If you would like to do another activity on your last day in Jaipur, join the group for an optional cooking experience followed by an incredible feast for dinner. India is known for its mouth-watering food, so what better way to spend your last few hours here than learning some of those cooking skills? And the best part is taste testing!
