13 nights including hotel stays, Indian Pacific Train, day tour and flights

Overview

Starting in Western Australia, this epic two-week itinerary allows you to discover four of Australia’s states, three of its most iconic cities, and some of the country’s best beaches. Kickstart your adventure in Australia’s sunniest capital, Perth, and pay a visit to Rottnest Island where'll meet the happiest animals on earth, quokkas.

Then, hop onboard the transcontinental Indian Pacific railway for an epic journey from Perth to Sydney. You'll travel and dine in style over four days, watch the sunrise over the Nullarbor Plains, and see the Blue Mountains. Following a few nights in Sydney, you'll finish your coast-to-coast trip with a relaxing four-night stay in Port Douglas, where you can explore the ancient Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.

Days 1-3:

Perth

Welcome to Perth! Australia’s sunniest capital boasts white-sand beaches, beautiful parks and a world-class dining scene – all of which is just waiting to be explored.

With three nights here, you'll have plenty of time to discover the city and surrounding areas. We'd definitely recommend going to Freemantle to catch the ferry across to Rottnest Island, where you can learn about the isle's historical heritage and meet the resident quokkas. You can also easily access the Margaret River wine region from Perth, so why not take a daytrip to sample local wines and gourmet produce? And, in Perth itself, make sure you stroll through the Kings Park and admire the views of the city.

Day 4:

Indian Pacific (Kalgoorlie)

Today, you'll board the iconic Indian Pacific. Follow in the footsteps of bush pioneers, gold rush prospectors and legendary adventurers, as you make an epic transcontinental crossing to Sydney.

Your journey from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean begins as you pull away from the platform in Perth mid-morning. Settle into your comfortable cabin and get to know the creature comforts of life onboard. Enjoy a modern Australian lunch as you glide through the picturesque rolling hills of the Avon Valley. After a relaxing afternoon onboard, you'll enjoy a three-course dinner prior to your late-evening arrival in the wild west township of Kalgoorlie.

Day 5:

Indian Pacific (Nullarbor Plain)

Awake to the spectacular expanse of the Nullarbor Plain and watch the sunrise. You'll be captivated by the big blue skies and ancient stillness of the desert landscape, broken only by a mob of friendly kangaroos. Waiting ahead is the once-thriving Nullarbor railway community – now a ghost town – of Cook. Sit back and relax as the train continues  across the longest single stretch of railway in the world. Another mouth-watering dinner is served in the evening, followed by relaxed conversation in the lounge before a restful night’s sleep.

You can marvel at the majestic Three Sisters at Echo Point and the views at Jamison Valley, before completing your journey aboard the chartered NSW rail service (fully hosted by Indian Pacific staff) to Sydney Central Station. Alternatively, you can stay onboard the Indian Pacific to travel directly to Sydney.

On arrival in Australia's most iconic city, make your way to your hotel located in the heart of Sydney’s Darling Harbour. You can spend your evening relaxing or exploring at your leisure.

Days 8-9:

Sydney

Spend the next couple of days exploring one of Australia’s most popular capitals. If it’s your first time in Sydney, be sure to check out the icons which make is so famous. Circular Quay is a great place to start – it's where you'll find the Sydney Opera House, iconic views of Sydney Harbour Bridge, great bars and restaurants, and an all-round buzz. Plus, The Rocks – a historic neighbourhood filled with laneways, markets and cafes – and the Royal Botanic Garden are just a short stroll away.

If you want to get a taste of Sydney’s relaxed beach lifestyle, the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk is a must-do. This iconic pathway offers outstanding ocean views and the chance to swim in the sea, too. For another taste of local life, head to Bondi Beach for a surf lesson. Or you could simply sit on the sands and watch the pros in action.

Days 10-14:

Port Douglas

Hop on a flight from Sydney to Cairns and spend your last four nights in the laidback, beach town of Port Douglas – known as the gateway to the 'rainforest and reef'. Be sure to arrange a cruise to the Outer Great Barrier Reef and go snorkelling among tropical fish. And take some time to explore the ancient Daintree Rainforest, where you can search for exotic birds, crocodiles and the elusive emu-like cassowary.

Nearby Port Douglas, there's also the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, where you can ride above magnificent rainforest and get spectacular views over the trees and reef below. Port Douglas itself also has a number of boutique shops, bars and restaurants, plus the stunning Four Mile Beach – so there's plenty here to keep you occupied.
