Once you’ve made it past the traditionally dressed doorman and imposing carved wooden doors, you’ll find a pretty regal resort waiting for you at Al Husn. It’s hidden behind Oman’s mountains – and only accessible by a tunnel – so you won’t be disturbed by anything during your getaway. And from its clifftop spot, you’ll be treated to sweeping views across the Gulf of Oman and the Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort’s private beaches.
If you’re looking for an adults-only getaway, Al Husn makes a great base. You’ll need to be 16 or older to stay here, so it’s an ideal choice for friends looking to totally unwind, or couples wanting some quiet time to reconnect. Recline by the infinity pool with a refreshing drink or get in a few leisurely lengths before dinner. Or visit Hareer Spa, and indulge in a high-end facial, massage or scrub using luxe products from French beauty house L’Occitane. If you get peckish, why not take afternoon tea overlooking the calm ocean?
While Al Husn specialises in relaxation, there are some livelier activities available, if you can bear to part from your sun lounger. Head south to the main Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort, which is packed with more than 15 restaurants, six pools and even a half-kilometre lazy river route that winds through the grounds. There’s even a traditional Souk market here, where you can pick up gifts and local treats to remind you of Oman.
Dine on Moroccan cuisine at this glittering restaurant or take your dinner out to the terrace. Listen to the sounds of Arabian singers as you sip Lebanese wine.
Bringing the flavours of the sea to the cliffside, Sultanah’s international fine-dining menu has dishes from every country this famous cruise liner once visited.
Graze on light bites, salads and sandwiches at this cliffside eatery, which sits next to Al Husn’s private beach cove. Or enjoy a private dinner here when the sun goes down.
You’ll find heathy dishes crafted from organic ingredients at Al Muheet, right next to the resort’s large infinity pool. Sip sweet cocktails as you look out across the Gulf of Oman.
With a name that means ‘the castle’, it’s not surprising that all 180 of Al Husn’s rooms and suites feel pretty regal. Each one has been decorated with authentic Omani art, while gem-like tones and intricate patterns give each space a modern yet traditionally Middle Eastern feel. The best part? You can expect fantastic sea or mountain views from Al Husn’s clifftop spot.
