Florida's Gulf Coast

St Petersburg & Clearwater Holidays

Clearwater? Plain sailing.

St Petersburg and Clearwater are two cities on Florida’s west coast. Both are perched on a peninsula that’s surrounded by water, with Tampa Bay to the east and the vast Gulf of Mexico to the west. It’s one of the sunniest places in the USA, with an average of 361 sunny days per year – St Petersburg even holds a Guinness World Record for its weather, racking up 768 days of consecutive sunshine. As such, holidays to Clearwater and St Petersburg are popular with travellers seeking lovely weather, pristine white sands and vibrant cities – all in one place. In fact, the beaches here wouldn’t look out of place in the Caribbean or the Indian Ocean, rather than within 25 minutes’ drive of Tampa.

If a great nightlife scene is important to you, Clearwater is the livelier of the two cities. Clearwater Beach in particular is packed with Tiki bars, seafront lounges and places to let your hair down. Meanwhile St Petersburg has made a name for itself as a foodie’s paradise, with irresistible places to eat all across the city. Several craft breweries and award-winning restaurants can be found Downtown, so it’s a great place to base yourself if dining out plays a big part in your holiday. It’s also home to a busy arts scene, which continues to grow year on year.

The coast off St Petersburg and Clearwater is scattered with beautiful keys – small, sandy islands – that are connected to the mainland by roads and ferries. You should definitely spend some time here if you want to take things at a slower pace, as there are many miles of beaches, ocean and fascinating city streets to explore. Families, couples and groups will find plenty to do on a getaway to St Petersburg and Clearwater.
