Day 1: Auckland - Bay of Islands
'Land of the Long White Cloud' is the English translation of Aotearoa, the Maori name for New Zealand, and we think this is the ultimate self-drive holiday to this stunning country. Collect your Avis Compact Automatic rental car (budget & standard packages) or Intermediate Size rental car (superior package) from the Auckland Downtown or Airport Depot.  23 days rental car hire included.  Depart Auckland and head north over the Harbour Bridge to the Bay of Islands. After a long international flight, however, we'd recommend building in an extra day in Auckland before starting your self-drive (please ask for details).

Head to the alpine adventure resort of Queenstown for a three-night stay where, on our optional sightseeing package, we have included a ride on the Shotover Jet, plus a day trip to Milford Sound.
