Great Keppel Island Hideaway is anchored in Australia’s Coral Sea, just off Queensland’s southern coast. While this idyllic island retreat is close to the south end of the iconic Great Barrier Reef – which is known to be the most vibrant stretch – Great Keppel has its own house reefs perfect for either snorkeling or PADI diving on. Those wishing to stay above water can drift out to secluded bays on kayaks or paddleboards, and there's a good chance you'll spot a turtle or two along the way!
You can pick your ideal break at Great Keppel Island Hideaway. If you’d like to sit back and leave the cooking to the experts, opt for one of the motel-style Palm Rooms, and head to the resort’s bistro when you get peckish – it’s just a two-minute walk from your room. Alternatively, you could opt for one of the self-contained lodges or houses. You can whip up a feast in your well-equipped kitchen, or make the most of the outdoor barbecue, which is perfect for entertaining the Aussie way. Just remember to do your food shop before you set sail from the mainland.
Wherever you look, nature flourishes at Great Keppel Island Hideaway. You can see more than 90 species of bird, watch dolphins jumping in the ocean, and there are growing numbers of whales with every year. Great Keppel also has 17 pristine, golden beaches, and hours of bush hikes with scenic lookouts to tackle at your leisure. Water babies can splash and snorkel to their hearts’ content, while land-lovers get trekking or tanning.
This place has something for everyone. Stop by in the morning for an invigorating coffee and a hearty breakfast of waffles, a fry-up, or smashed avocados. At lunchtime, there's everything from fresh salads to Wagyu burgers to fish tacos. And, in the evening, you can look forward to a feast of oysters, barramundi or risotto, all finished with a rich and creamy affogato.
Take your pick from simple rooms and stand-alone accommodation options at Great Keppel Island Hideaway. The former motel-style rooms are a fuss-free option, but they're bright, clean and have everything you need. If you’d like a few more home comforts, the Island Cabins and A-frame House come with their own kitchenettes and terrace.
