The days are getting shorter, the layers are getting thicker, and mince pies have started appearing in the shops. In case you hadn’t noticed, 2018 is drawing to a close – which can only mean one thing. It’s time to start planning your holiday for 2019.

What better way to ignore the British winter than to prep for your next getaway? It might seem early to be thinking about going on holiday in 2019 but – trust us – it isn’t. Booking early means you’ll be able to snap up the best deals, and you’ll have a greater choice of hotels, flights and upgrades. From tropical islands to buzzing cities, we’ve got the lowdown on the best places to visit in 2019. Which one will you pick?

January – The Maldives

Escape the worst month of the year with a holiday to the Maldives. Those winter blues will soon melt away once you’ve jumped into the sea from your over-water villa. If you’re worried that jetting off in January will leave you strapped for cash, take a look at our all-inclusive holidays to the Maldives. You can pay one great price and everything’s taken care of – easy.

February – Barbados

Usually the snowiest month of the year in the UK, February is the perfect time to jet off somewhere hot. Barbados is at the top of our list. If you want to unwind on sugar-white sands, sip authentic Caribbean cocktails and chill out in a first-class hotel, this is the place to go in 2019. Plus, February is one of the driest months in Barbados, so you can avoid those tropical downpours.

March – Thailand

Experience Thailand at its very best in March, when temperatures hover in the early-thirties. You might get the occasional rain shower, but it won’t last long. It’s also a great time of year for snorkelling in Thailand, particularly near Koh Samui – the waters surrounding the Gulf Islands are home to turtles, small sharks and more. Or, for the best of both worlds, take a look at our holidays to Phuket. This diverse area has everything from lively towns and top resorts, to gorgeous beaches and rich rainforests.

April – Japan

Japan is booming. In 2017, over 28 million people visited this fascinating country, compared to just eight million in 2007. Of course, this surge in popularity means prices are on the up – so, if you haven’t been, it’s better to go sooner rather than later. April is the best month to visit, because of two small words: cherry blossom. When they’re in full bloom, Japan’s famous fairytale trees are completely enchanting, and definitely a sight worth adding to your bucket list. Make sure you visit the 10 most beautiful landmarks in Japan while you’re there, too.

May – St Lucia

If you’re thinking about booking a romantic holiday for 2019, consider going to St Lucia in May. You’re guaranteed toasty temperatures – even the sea is about 27 degrees – and the island will be less crowded at this time of year. With adults-only hotels, powdery beaches and adrenaline-pumping activities, this Caribbean isle has something for every couple. Planning a winter wedding? May is the perfect time to go on honeymoon to St Lucia.

June – Bali

Indonesia’s Bali is a fantastic choice for an exotic holiday. You can see intricate temples, playful monkeys and five-star resorts all year round – but June is the best time to go for a cultural experience. At this time of year, the calendar is filled with festivals and events. The Bali Arts Festival is an unmissable extravaganza of dance shows, musical performances and colourful carnivals. Meanwhile, the Kite Festival sees the skies fill with traditional Balinese kites, made from bright fabrics and measuring up to 10 metres in length.

July – Florida

Let’s face it – Florida is the number one holiday destination for families. So, if you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids during the summer holidays in 2019, the Sunshine State should be on your list. From the jaw-dropping theme parks in Orlando, to the child-friendly beaches in Miami, Florida has something to suit tots, teens and adults alike.

August – Western Canada

It’s a common misconception that Canada is always cold. Actually, in August, Western Canada enjoys a comfortable summer, with temperatures reaching at least 24 degrees. The Rockies may still be capped with snow – even at this time of year – but this is just the right temperature for exploring British Columbia and Alberta. You can spend a few days wandering cosmopolitan Vancouver in the sunshine, then get back to nature in Banff National Park. This stunning part of Canada is filled with turquoise lakes, eye-popping scenery and wild bears.

September – Sri Lanka

Thanks to its tropical beaches, tea plantations and amazing wildlife, Sri Lanka is a wonderful holiday destination throughout the year. But September is the best time to go because of one very exciting event. Every year, ‘The Gathering’ takes place in Minneriya National Park, when hundreds of elephants come together to drink and play in the lake. If you need any more persuasion, here are 10 reasons why you should book a holiday to Sri Lanka.

October – Dubai

If the City of Gold is on your list for 2019, it’s best to go once the fierce summer heat has started to fade. We’d recommend going to Dubai in October, when there are fewer crowds and temperatures remain steady in the mid-thirties. This place is very popular with couples and shopaholics but, with theme parks, water parks and child-friendly resorts, Dubai has plenty for families too. If you’re planning a holiday with kids, why not go to Dubai during October half term?

November – Mauritius

With temperatures regularly hitting 28 degrees, Mauritius is the place to be in November. It’s also one of the best months for underwater visibility, making those snorkelling trips even better than normal. You can dive in clear seas, soak up some much-needed winter sun, and switch off with a beach massage. Make the most of your holiday by ticking off the best places to visit in Mauritius.

December – New York

The Big Apple is magical at the best of times, but December is something else entirely. There’s simply nowhere better for getting into the Christmas spirit. If you go on holiday to New York in December, you can grab some last-minute gifts on Fifth Avenue, go ice-skating in Central Park, and see the famous Rockefeller Centre Christmas tree. You might even get a sprinkling of snow while you’re there.
