Why you should do a helicopter tour in Las Vegas

This week, we have Chris from Travelbag's head office in London tell us why a helicopter tour can make your Las Vegas trip:

In March four of my friends and I, went on what was our first ever trip to Las Vegas! We stayed at the Linq hotel, which had gorgeous rooms, a great location, and the views of High Roller were unparalleled! It was an amazing experience, the sheer size of everything, from rollercoasters, to hotels, even the food, it blew us all away. But, easily, the highlight of our trip was the Helicopter tour with Maverick Helicopters.

We booked the Silver Cloud Experience which included complimentary pick-up and drop-off to, and from the Las Vegas airstrip facility, where the tours operate from. The minivan picked us up from our hotel at 08:50; we were impressed with the knowledgeable driver who answered any questions we had about the area and journey. The driver was very professional, taking us the slightly longer journey down the strip at our request.

Las Vegas The Strip

Less than 25minutes later we arrived at the departure lounge; it was of high quality with plush leather seats and lavish furnishings. In the half an hour we were waiting for our 10 o’clock departure, we received a quick safety brief and, helpfully, some photography/recording tips, for example, to take plenty of pictures because the harsh lighting can easily ruin a picture. When 10 o’clock ticked round the blood had left our bodies. We became apprehensive of boarding a helicopter for the very first time, but, after meeting the pilot, we were reassured and comforted by his professionalism and safety. All of a sudden, we were ecstatic, we couldn’t wait to clamber aboard and see the best sights from the best place; the air.

The first forty-five minutes consisted of: flying into the Grand Canyon, over Lake Mead, and The Hoover Dam before quickly stopping for a short refuel. After this, we headed back towards Vegas via the Mojave Desert and onto The Strip. We flew alongside some of the most famous Sin City landmarks and then, circled around Vegas seeing the city from the most amazing angles.

The helicopter started heading back towards the airstrip, our time was up. The three hours had ‘flown’ by (sorry couldn’t resist). This once in a lifetime experience was over, but, boy did we enjoy it! The highlight for me was easily as we descended into, and immersed ourselves within the canyon. Only once you’re inside does the sheer size of it ring home.

On the journey home, free again in the minivan, we got a hankering for a nose around a casino (while in Vegas and all that). We asked the driver where he would recommend. The driver suggested The Cosmopolitan, and, pleasantly, to our surprise, dropped us at the door. A real 10/10 experience that I would shout about from the top of The Stratosphere, recommending it to everyone!
