Romantic things to do in Dubai

by Travelbag on 03 June 2015, 17:06PM

Dubai is a beautiful patchwork of different scenery, from its vast deserts and stunning beaches, to modern cities boasting skyscrapers that shine brightly in the sun and mesmerise under the moonlight.

The exotic atmosphere makes this a destination of choice for those seeking romantic surroundings and a place to woo their other half. Regardless of whether it’s for proposing to the love of your life, celebrating a special occasion or simply taking a night to share your love – there’s not really a better place than the glamorous and mysterious Dubai.

This beautiful oasis in the desert has a myriad of attractions that make it the perfect destination for those with love in their lives and seeking a special experience. Here are a few things you might like to consider when planning that special trip.

Luxury Accommodation at the Bab al Shams Resort

The Bab al Shams luxury resort, situated among the picturesque sand dunes of Dubai, offers traditional style suites for all comers. Tucked away from the fast pace of the city, it offers a sense of quiet tranquillity for those seeking to recharge their batteries and spend some time with that special someone. The views of the surrounding landscape are nothing short of mesmerising and the resort offers a variety of activities designed to allow you to go out and experience it first-hand. Not least of these are jeep trips out into the surrounding desert, offering a sensational experience of the sands and sun. You can stop for a while to take it all in, either sitting or strolling barefoot through the soft sand. There is a spa available in the resort so that you can pamper yourselves at the end of the day with anything from a message to a face scrub. The resort boasts an elevated rooftop lounge, offering an ideal place to enjoy an evening together over a variety of delicious cocktails. Then all that’s left to do is watch the sun fall away behind the dunes of the Arabian Desert.

Fine Dining

This may seem obvious, but in Dubai there are no shortage of fantastic restaurants to wine and dine that special someone in. The Villa Beach Restaurant in the Jumeirah Beach Hotel offers fantastic food in an equally impressive environment. They present a variety of Mediterranean food, beautifully prepared, combined with enchanting views of the Burj al Arab to captivate you both. Seating is provided within earshot of the waves on the beach, which will sooth you both if a quiet lull settles on the conversation.

If you have loftier dinner ambitions, you may be interested in trying At.Mosphere for a bite. While the menu offers equally delicious options, it is the romantic ambience of the dining room that truly wows. Located on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa, the views are among the finest on earth, sure to set the mood for a romantic meal.

For a very special night, and for those able to afford it, Pierchic will dazzle seafood lovers. It boasts an incredibly intimate atmosphere and has consistently been ranked amongst the finest restaurants Dubai has to offer.

Of course there are other options for those that would like an alternative to dining in a more formal environment. If fresh air and a sense of seclusion are the order of the day, a picnic on the beach or in the mountains will offer an up-close experience of some of Dubai’s breath-taking landscapes. A short trip to Hatta or Al Ain may interest you, as will the thought of enjoying your meal to a fabulous sun setting behind the mountains.

Enjoy a Dinner Cruise

See Dubai from an entirely different perspective by hopping aboard one of the available boats for a cruise along the river, while soaking in the fabulous views of world famous buildings, including the Burj Khalifa, the beautiful beaches and the Dubai Marina. The incredible skyline you will have in view also includes the likes of the Atlantis Hotel and the Burj al Arab. A variety of companies offer these tours, comprising all-glass boats that will offer maximum enjoyment of the Dubai creek, as you drift slowly past the lights of the most beautiful buildings the city has to offer. As if it couldn’t get better, the idea behind these tours is that you enjoy a meal while on them, so the only difficult decision you will need to make is what you will order from the variety of sumptuous menus on offer. Booking ahead of time is recommended.

Take a Walk on the Beach

Dubai is renowned for its breath-taking white sand and crystal-clear water. A variety of public beaches are within reach, though certain areas require you to adhere to a minimum dress code, while public displays of affection should also be avoided. Of course, you can still enjoy a romantic walk together, either under a fiery sun or beautifully tranquil moonlight, listening to the gentle lap of the surf on the sand. A myriad of private beaches are also available, with hotels offering them to their guests. These beaches can be accessed at a day rate if you are not a guest of the hotel, or may be included in your room rate if you are. This can be clarified before you book to eliminate confusion.

Overnight Desert Trip

An overnight trip into the desert may seem a little daunting at first, but for those with a little bit of an adventurous side it may be one of the highlights of the trip. Several companies provide these trips and include transport and entertainment, from local belly dancing to skiing across the sand. While these activities are a great way to have fun with your partner, the romance will become apparent as you nestle down by the evening campfire, to the backdrop of a brilliant, starry sky and the dunes all around. Tour companies usually require a minimum of 4-6 people, so if you have a couple of friends planning on a romantic getaway at the same time as you, this could be ideal. Otherwise, you may be able to contact a company to arrange a private trip, though this will come at added expense. Of course, once you have watched the sunset and spent a night under the stars, you may feel like it was an experience that was worth every penny.

Balloon Tour

If you both can drag yourselves out of bed, a trip in a hot air balloon to watch the sunrise from a couple of thousand feet in the air could offer one of the experiences of a lifetime. Trips are offered seven days a week and are available between September and May from Balloon Adventures Emirates. The tour starting times vary according to the time of the sunrise and they make every effort to have you back at your hotel in time for breakfast. Pick-up times vary depending on where you are staying and the company will confirm this with you the night before the trip. While it might be difficult to imagine getting out of bed before sun-up, once you are in the air, the romance of the view will surely overtake you both. You may also spot some camels or desert animals roaming in their natural habitat.
