Amazing Thailand

by Travelbag on 07 January 2015, 14:01PM Amazing Thailand

Joanna Cooke, PR and Marketing Manager for Thailand Tourism, tells us why 2015 is the year to discover Thailand!

Discover hospitality

Thailand is as renowned for its gracious, friendly people as it is for its own glorious beaches and exotic culture. With a genuine smile thrown in for free, its hospitality is as welcoming and refreshing as a dip in the ocean. Whether you are venturing out to meet fascinating tribal villagers, learning Muay Thai boxing, or being pampered in a spa, it’s something you’ll experience every moment you are there.

Discover culture

Your cultural visit to Thailand can take you to a diverse range of captivating cities, way beyond the capital. From Phuket and Ko Samui in the south, to Sukhothai and Chiang Mai further north. Even a day trip from Bangkok will introduce you to the delights of Ayutthaya, the old capital city of Thailand, and Kanchanaburi, setting for The Bridge over the River Kwai.

Discover beaches

Fly into Bangkok and you can be playing on the beach after just an hour’s drive and living it up in lively Pattaya. Or for a little more restful relaxation, a leisurely three-hour road trip will take you to tranquil Hua Hin, a traditional fishing town famous for seafood, spa and wellness centres and the King’s Summer Palace.

East coast or West coast, Thailand offers every kind of beach holiday under the sun. Beautiful white sands stretch along the lush east coast, facing the Gulf of Thailand, and cover the length of the rugged west coast, beside the Andaman Sea. From tranquil hideaways to lively resorts, there’s something for everyone all year round.

Base yourself on either coast or on one of the amazing islands, and you are never more than a short hop from another offshore paradise. To the west, Phuket, Krabi and the Similan Islands offer an endless array of unforgettable experiences, from canoe trips around the spectacular limestone crags of Phang-nga Bay and a visit to ‘James Bond Island’ to snorkelling, fishing and some of the best diving.

In the east, the three islands of Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan and Ko Tao offer everything from backpacker huts to chic and boutique hotels, a stunning national marine park, a host of diving schools, spas and entertainment for all the family.

Discover flavours

You’ll find the very essence of Thailand in its fabulously fragrant food. Dishes are available for as little as £1 from places as varied as street stalls and floating markets to malls and gourmet restaurants.

Learn to cook like a local; a Thai cookery class is an essential ingredient in any holiday to Thailand. From just £15, most involve a trip to a local market to choose your fresh ingredients, followed by an inspirational lesson in creating some of Thailand’s most popular dishes, so you can impress at your next dinner party.

Discover adventures

If you want to feel your pulse racing, zip-wiring, white water rafting and 4WD safaris are all on offer across Thailand. There’s also hot air ballooning and cycling trips to historic places like Sukhotai, treks through the jungle-clad north, elephant mahout courses and not to mention the unmissable experience of abseiling the thundering waterfalls of Khao Yai National Park in the East.

Discover Festivals

Cultural celebrations play a big part of life in Thailand and visitors are always welcome to join in with the time-honoured customs, festivals and traditions- especially the famous water festivals of Songkran, held nationwide each April during Thai New Year. Loy Krathong and Yi Peng in November are festivals not to be missed too, when the rivers and skies fill with candle lit lanterns.
