Top things to do in Dubai- Part Two

by Travelbag on 18 December 2015, 12:12PM

If you’re planning on going on holiday to Dubai, then this guide is for you! Dubai is arguably the best modern city in the world to visit and we want to help you have an unforgettable time by suggesting some of the amazing things you can do during your trip.

In Part One, we focused on what the Burj Khalifa has to offer, the Dubai Mall and its attractions and visiting the desert. In this blog we’re going to look at the best museums and beaches as well as some hidden gems. Read on to find out more…

Visit Dubai Museum

Dubai mightn’t be one of the most cultural cities in the world but there are still some museums that are worth exploring if you have time during your holiday. The museum we recommend, if you only have time to visit one, is the Dubai Museum, which first opened in 1971 and is in the oldest building in Dubai, the Al Fahidi Fort.

This museum allows you to take a step back in time and see how Dubai used to be, you can walk down a street and see traditional craftsmen at work in their stores. You’ll learn so much as you move from one display to the next, the story of the Bedouin people is really compelling and will leave you wanting to learn more.

Take a trip to Hatta Heritage Village

If you want to go for a drive, you can leave the city and be in Hatta Heritage Village within an hour. This is a great place to visit if you want to know what rural life was like in the mountains hundreds of years ago. You can explore traditional houses, two castles and a fortress as well as admiring artefacts and displays. Why not take a picnic with you to enjoy before you make your way back to the city?

Visit Al Bastakiya

Dubai might be famous for being ultra-modern but as well as the skyscrapers you can find historic buildings if you go to the Al Bastakiya district. It’s well worth spending an hour or two here exploring the narrow lanes and admiring the architecture. All the homes have barjeels (wind towers) and traditionally the richer the family, the more barjeels their home would have.

It’s the perfect place to visit if you want to just chill out and enjoy some peace and quiet. There are some shops, cafes, museums and art galleries but they’re never overcrowded. Why not take a stroll along the nearby creek?

Enjoy the beaches

You can’t travel all the way to Dubai and not spend time on one or more of the city’s luxurious beaches. Some beaches do charge but there are plenty of great ones that don’t. We highly recommend you go to the JBR Beach (Jumeirah Beach Residences) which is one of Dubai’s most beautiful beaches and has some wonderful cafes, restaurants and bars for you to try. You should also check out Jumeirah Open Beach and Bu Qtair Beach during your holiday.

As well as sunbathing and reading, you can go scuba diving, snorkelling or try one of the many water sports available on the beach. You could also go sailing or on a fishing trip.

Head to the skies

Why not create a memory you’ll never forget by taking a hot air balloon ride over the desert or doing a ski dive over The Palm? The city looks even more incredible from up high!

We hope we’ve given you plenty of food for thought in this guide.
