A 30-minute flight from Mahé will take you to Denis Private Island, where the untamed wilderness, powder-soft sand and hand-crafted cabins will make you feel like Robinson Crusoe – if he’d had air-con and a king-size bed!

Or you could visit Seychelles’ second-biggest isle, Praslin, to relax on some of the country’s prettiest beaches. Smaller islands surround picturesque Praslin, including Curieuse, La Digue and St Pierre.

ALL-OUT ARUBA

A holiday to Aruba is the stuff of dreams, packed with a vast selection of sandy beaches, all-inclusive resorts, and swanky hotels for you to choose from.

This picture-perfect island is all about time on the beach. If you want to be in the centre of the action, Palm Beach is your best bet. The next beach along, Eagle Beach, is lined with fofoti trees and looks out to the perfectly still, turquoise water; it’s nothing short of paradise. For a completely novel experience, make tracks for Renaissance Island. This private island is home to the adults-only Flamingo Beach, where, as the name suggests, pink-feathered flamingos freely roam.

If you fancy a change of scene, head to the laid-back capital, Oranjestad. Wander around the shops, galleries, and museums, admiring the Dutch-colonial architecture as you go. Or sit down with a drink and enjoy the sunshine at Plaza Daniel Leo.

Of course, if you want your Aruba holiday to be more action-packed, you can explore gravity-defying rock bridges, pools, and caves at Arikok National Park. And, if you’ve always wanted to give watersports a go, you’re in the right place. You can even go on a submarine expedition, discovering shipwrecks and coral reefs 130 feet below the ocean’s surface.

ONE, TWO, THREE ISLANDS? DODDLE

If you’re a first-time visitor to French Polynesia, we’d recommend visiting multiple islands during your stay. The three most unmissable are Tahiti, Mo’orea and Bora Bora. Spend a couple of nights in Tahiti, French Polynesia’s largest and most populous island. The capital Papeete is teeming with history, nature and tradition; further afield, there’s a host of beautiful scenery just waiting to be explored. Be sure to join a guided tour that visits the East Coast’s dramatic volcanic scenery, a stark comparison to the West’s shallow turquoise lagoons and reefs.

Over in Mo’orea, it feels like you have stepped into Jurassic Park – an island with a luscious interior that is just as exciting to explore as the lagoon surrounding it. Enjoy a snorkelling tour in the lagoon, discover exotic fruit plantations, visit Belvedere Lookout, and travel through Opunohu Bay.

Finish in Bora Bora, a picture-postcard island surrounded by a turquoise lagoon and scores of sand-fringed motus (small islets). Looking to explore somewhere new in Thailand? Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi invite you to discover a lesser-trodden side of the country. Here, village life and fishing coves still hold out over bustling resorts, and time moves at a sleepier pace. Watch the sunrise on a secluded beach, taste the day’s catch at a family-run restaurant, and snorkel in clear waters. At the end of each day, sip a cold beer or cocktail and see the blue sky turn into a canvas of pink and orange as the sun sets over Phang Nga Bay. Whether you’re eager to enjoy a lazy day on a powdery beach or looking for thrilling water activities, Zanzibar has it covered. Nungwi Beach is one of the best beaches in Zanzibar; expect postcard-worthy views and rich coral reefs. When you are on holiday in Antigua, be sure to spend the day exploring English Harbour, home to one of Antigua’s top landmarks: Nelson’s Dockyard - a marina and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
