Step into the great outdoors in this week's Escape Edition. Everyone loves to get out there and explore somewhere new and different, and here at Travelbag, we make doing that easy. A holiday to Whistler has something for everyone. Whether you’re drawn to snowy slopes of sun-soaked lakes, this place will not disappoint!

During winter, you can look forward to Christmas card-worthy scenes featuring frozen lakes, powdery mountains, and cosy candle-lit bars. As a world-famous haven for snow sports, keen skiers and snowboarders will be in their element here.

For a more relaxed way of exploring the area, you can enjoy stunning 360-degree views of Whistler and surrounding areas from the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola or enjoy winter activities such as snowshoeing, snowmobiling and in the evening head to Vallea Lumina for an impressive multimedia night walk.

In May, the winter snows melt to reveal hiking and biking trails to explore. For mountain bikers, a visit to Bike Park is a must for the ultimate gravity-fed downhill biking experience. Go canoeing and swimming in emerald-green lakes or tee off on one of Whistler’s immaculate golf courses. Take a guided walk in search of beavers and black bears, or get your heart racing with a spot of zip-lining or white water rafting.

To top it all off, Whistler Village has fantastic dining options, from casual après ski snacks to fine dining restaurants. Sample craft beer in a taproom or enjoy organic, locally sourced ingredients from a sun-soaked terrace at the foot of the mountain; there’s something to suit every taste and budget.

Enjoy lunch at Havaiki Lodge’s Sleep Shark Snack on the remote island of Fakarava. Here, you can try locally sourced raw fish, voted the best in Polynesia, with your feet dangling in the water as nurse sharks swim around your toes.

Why not spend the afternoon exploring Moorea by quad bike? Head out on one of the organised tours, taking you inland up to the Belvedere for panoramic views before driving the pineapple trail to reach the centre of the volcano. On the way back, you’ll stop at the top of ‘Magic Mountain’ for incredible views of the lagoon below, a sight not to be missed.

For the ultimate way to explore the islands of Tahiti, why not try a Tahiti Yacht Charter? Bursting with incredible marine life, emerald volcanic peaks, and vivid exotic flora, a yacht is the perfect way to see it all. GO ALL OUT-DOORS IN HOUSTON

Despite its reputation as a bustling metropolis, Houston makes room for several peaceful parks. In fact, there are more than 650 green spaces across the city and 52,000 acres of parkland. So, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to relax on your Houston holiday.

Right in the heart of the city, you’ll find almost 1,500 acres of open space, and further out, Memorial Park offers you the chance to while away the hours with various sports activities. You can make the most of the golf course, tennis courts and swimming pool. In the downtown district, Discovery Green Park runs a regular farmers’ market. There’s even Wi-Fi available in the park and an ice rink in the winter months.

If you’re looking to get out of the city, just a 25-minute drive from Houston Airport, you’ll find The Woodlands – a unique spot that is lively and refined yet maintains a serene and casual feel. The great outdoors is a big part of life in The Woodlands. Why not get out on the water by kayaking, paddleboarding, or trying water biking? The Woodland Waterway winds through the town centre, linking Town Green Park, Water Square, and The Woodlands Mall. And there’s a free water trolley, which makes it easy to get around.

The Woodlands provides a serene and scenic backdrop during the day, but it comes to life when the sun goes. The nightlife scene offers everything from swanky rooftop and cocktail bars to wine lounges and bustling waterfront bars. One place not to be missed is the Fountains at Waterway Square. You’ll be mesmerised by the choreographed waters, which dance to music every 15 minutes throughout the day – but they’re most spectacular in the evening.

Table Mountain

Table Mountain is a must-see for all Cape Town visitors. The panoramic views from the top of its 3,563-foot (1,086-meter) peak are well worth the climb - though you won’t have to break a sweat thanks to the mountain’s two cableways, each with a revolving car ferrying passengers to the summit. Once at the top, a series of hiking trails show off Table Mountain National Park’s geographic features, while daredevils can test their mettle by rappelling from the upper cable station.
