Explore Venice and its beautiful surroundings on a river cruise aboard the S.S. La Venezia. This luxury ship – which was totally re-designed and renovated in 2020 – will immerse you in Italian art, wine and culture, as you sail in total luxury. You’ll sail around the Venice Lagoon and up the River Po, learn the region’s fascinating history, sample incredible wine and food from Italy’s culinary hotspots, and see all sorts of cultural treasures.
All meals onboard the ship are included, and you’ll enjoy six days of excursions including “Let's Go” and “Do as the Locals Do” programmes. Visit Saint Mark’s Basilica after-hours, enjoy a pasta-making class, and much more.
Arrive in the beautiful city of Venice. You’ll be greeted at the airport and transferred to the S.S La Venezia. Unpack, relax and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Wake up and go on a morning walk of Doge’s Palace, a masterpiece of Venetian Gothic architecture with a lavish interior filled with ancient artefacts. Continue exploring the historic Castello District. This thriving and authentic residential quarter is filled with 800-year-old homes, tiny canals and laundry drying in the breeze overhead. Later on, you’ll enjoy a private after-hours visit to Saint Mark’s Basilica, where you can see this iconic church in the evening light without the crowds. Home to priceless treasures, intricate mosaics and extraordinary artwork, it’s easy to see why this place is called the Church of Gold.
There are two options for you today. Choose between a full-day visit to the Medieval town of Padua, where you can sample Italian aperitifs and snacks, before taking a walking tour to discover the city’s impressive squares, churches and palaces. Or you can go on a walking tour of Venice and discover the seaside town of Chioggia, south of Venice.
In the evening, there’ll be a special Captain’s Welcome Reception and Dinner, where you can reflect on the day’s activities with your fellow travellers.
Today you’ll explore the culinary capital of Italy – Bologna – which is the home of Bolognese sauce. You can go on a full-day tour, which includes an exclusive pasta-making workshop and lunch. Or, if you prefer, you can visit the city of Ferrara on a half day tour. Discover the city’s Renaissance and Gothic architecture and the impressive Castle Estense.
Your overnight stop tonight is the island town of Burano, known for its lace work and brightly coloured homes. En route, you’ll stop at the charming coastal town of Chioggia and visit a lively local market.
Spend today discovering the northern lagoon of Venice, where you can go island-hopping around Torcello, Mazzorbo and Burano. Each island offers something unique to be discovered. You can explore Torcello with an Art Historian, learn about Mazzorbo’s local wine-making, and stroll around Burano’s colourful fishermen’s cottages.
Return to Venice and explore more of its icons. Glide along the Grand Canal and marvel at the Rialto Bridge and Fondaco dei Tedeeschi. Enjoy a walking tour with a difference, as you embrace the life of a local with an array of foodie experiences. Alternatively, you could opt to do a Rialto walking tour and learn all about the notorious Giacomo Casanova, who was born in Venice is 1725.
In the evening, you’ll celebrate your trip with a special Captain’s Farewell Reception and Dinner.
Disembark from S.S. La Venezia and transfer back to the airport for your flight home.
