We want to highlight how there's so much more to these cities and take you exploring beyond the city walls. Baltimore’s prime location made it a big player in US military history. And, most famously, it’s known as the birthplace of the country’s national anthem.

A great place to start exploring the city is the Washington Monument. Climb over 200 steps to reach the top of this colossal marble column before dropping by the museum to learn about its construction. At Fort McHenry, you’ll uncover all there is to know about the Battle of Baltimore. See how it inspired the words behind America’s national anthem before taking a stroll through the grounds to enjoy views of the tranquil Patapsco River.

But there’s much more to Baltimore than just war history.

If you’re after a quintessential American experience, watching a baseball game at Camden Yards and cheering on the Orioles should be at the top of your itinerary.

For the food lovers among you, Baltimore doesn’t disappoint! If you’re partial to some seafood, the city is known for its selection of fantastic crab restaurants. Better still, you can wash it down with a pint of National Bohemian – or ‘Natty Boh’ – a refreshing larger with Baltimore origins. For those of you with a sweet tooth, pick up a scrumptious cheesecake from the Codetta Bake Shop or try some American favourites at Dangerously Delicious Pies in Canton.

NOVA SCOTIA? SORTED

Begin your Nova Scotia adventure in the city of Halifax - a perfect first stop to explore Nova Scotia’s fascinating and important past in picturesque surroundings.

Discover the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 - the former site of the original immigration sheds that welcomed travellers from all over Europe to begin their journey into Canadian citizenship. Or wander the peaceful gardens and winding footpaths of Point Pleasant Park, scattered with historical monuments, wartime ruins, and the 220-year-old Prince of Wales Tower, the first of its kind in North America.

In the evening, you can sit and watch the world go by at Halifax Harbour, and then, as there are more pubs per person than anywhere in Canada, it would be rude not to finish the night enjoying a pint!

A trip to Cape Breton Island is a must-do on any holiday to Nova Scotia. Start in Baddeck – the holiday home of Alexander Graham Bell – and explore 180 miles of winding scenic road north of the island. Pass through mountains to lookout points, where you can see whales swimming in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Descend to secluded sandy beaches or pause for a while in the small roadside communities featuring artisan eateries and unique boutiques. In Cape Breton Highlands National Park, you can spot deer, moose, beavers and eagles.

EXPLORE MELBOURNE AND MORE

A maze of coffee shops, laidback brunch spots and rooftop bars, Melbourne is commonly referred to as the nation’s capital of cool. Explore colourful laneways, wander along the Yarra River, or watch a match at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Beyond city life, a trip to Victoria offers wineries, lakes, and mountains, along with one of the most scenic drives in the world. The Great Ocean Road hugs the coastline from Torquay to Allansford, weaving past incredible rock formations and bright blue sea for 150 miles. You’ll see famous postcard-worthy spots like the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, and London Bridge.

More than 100 parks and reserves are just waiting to be explored in Victoria, making it the perfect destination for enjoying the great outdoors. Grampians National Park has striking rocky outcrops and is one of south-eastern Australia’s richest indigenous rock art sites. Motifs are painted in numerous caves, including depictions of humans, human hands, animal tracks, and birds.

Head out of Melbourne for the day and explore wine country. In Mornington Peninsula, south of the city - you can tour award-winning wineries, visit pretty beach towns or soothe in thermal pools at Peninsula Hot Springs. Philip Island is a must for all animal lovers. Each evening, you’ll see hundreds of tiny penguins congregate on Summer Beach after a day at sea.
