You can see Sri Lanka’s amazing wildlife on game drives in national parks, where you can spot Elephants, Sloth bears and the well populated Leopards. You’ll also be able to explore ancient ruins at Anuradhapura – the once-capital of Sri Lanka – and Polonnaruwa, as climb to the top of the famous Sigiriya Rock. After a busy week, enjoy some beach time in Passikudah, take in the sun and work on that tan.

On arrival to Wilpattu National Park, you will set out a safari to the largest and one of the oldest national parks in Sri Lanka. This lesser crowded National Park is a secret gem, it is world renowned for its leopard population as well as high density of elephants, sloth bear, spotted dear, mongoose and water buffalos.

city of Anuradhapura will leave you in awe with the ancient wonders.
Anuradhapura
The prodigious destination of north central Sri Lanka is Anuradhapura. It is the epicenter of Theravada Buddhism which was built around the Sacred Bodhi tree of Buddha or “tree of enlightenment”. This Religious and Political city ruled for nearly 1300 years, from 3rd century B.C till 10th Century A.D. Once reigned as the 1 st Kingdom of ancient Ceylon, Anuradhapura boasts of pride and eloquence of rich historical, religious and cultural heritage. This pious central city holds the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and Ruwanweliseya Dagobah as its supreme and tell tails dated back to the time of Lord Buddha. Surrounded by the Atamasthana, Anuradhapura will be your ideal evocative destination to dive into the commencement of Ceylon civilization and definitely the tough constructions. Did you know that Anuradhapura Kingdom even appears in Ptolemy’s world map? Yes. It is and this map is one of the oldest maps known to man.

Polonnaruwa
Walk down the memory lanes of the Second Kingdom of Sri Lanka. Once crowned as a flourishing religious epicenter, Polonnaruwa still stands tall with its rich cultural and religious heritage. You may start your journey with visit to the King’s Palace, Vatadage and several other Dagobas which dates back nearly 1000 years from today. The archaeological park would be to your utmost adoring as they would share the ever-so beautiful days of ancient Ceylon and the tales of the kings and queens who ruled with pride. Did you know Disney Nature’s acclaimed movie “Monkey Kingdom” was shot entirely in Polonnaruwa? The documentary is an awe-inspiring depiction of Polonnaruwa and its treasures. Dambulla
“Dambulla rock cave temple” also known as the “golden temple”, is a sacred pilgrimage world heritage site, which holds a historical value of twenty-two centuries. Following the finding of the human skeletons, which is older than 2700 years from “Ibbankatuwa” near the Dambulla cave complexes, it is predicted that the prehistoric Sri Lankans have lived in these cave complexes. The rock cave temple is identified as the largest and best preserved cave temple site in Sri Lanka and miss not to witness the fascinating five caves which are located under a giant overhanging rock and a collection of 153 Buddha statues, statues of gods and goddesses and vivid murals that covers the area which elaborates the Buddha’s journey to enlightenment and his teachings.
Sigiriya
Be a spectator of the breath taking, ever-so tall, Sigiriya which dates back to 5th Centaury AD. This revived garden city is a unique masterpiece of affluent engineering skills, architecture, planning, landscape and especially irrigation. Even today it is a mystery to unveil the architectural skills our engineers possessed during a time like 400 AD. Sigiriya is significantly known as one of the best examples of ancient plumbing. King Kasyapa, built Sigiriya as his Rock Fortress and you will see why, when you reach the 660 feet straight up and saw the awe-inspiring view to much afar. His life story of becoming the king, by overthrowing his father, is mysterious and controversial. Especially because, in one story it is believed that King Kasyapa killed his father by entombing him to a wall, and another depicts to say he was buried alive in the bund of Kalawewa. Do not forget to capture these incredible stories and add to your collection of memories of your visit to Sri Lanka.
