Your trip will start in Darwin, where you’ll have three days to explore the Northern Territories characterful cultural outpost. On day four it’s time to board The Ghan, a plush train that will gracefully cut its way through the countries core, all the way to the Southern Australian capital of Adelaide. Along the way there will chances to marvel at extraordinary scenery in Katherine, dine under the stars in Alice Springs and discover how the locals live in the opal mining town of Coober Pedy.
Welcome to Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, an energetic coastal city bursting with Aboriginal culture, buzzing night markets and the odd crocodile or two! During your stay there will be plenty of time to explore the city independently, soak in the atmosphere along the waterfront, stroll through the Botanic Gardens or visit the popular Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. On your final night, a treat is in store as you sail into the sunset on an included Darwin Harbour catamaran cruise, a seafood dinner will be served on board as the champagne flows.

Step foot onto The Ghan, your luxurious moving base for the next three nights. Settle into your cabin or spend some time familiarising yourself with the train's facilities. After lunch, you’ll arrive in Katherine, where it’s time for your first Off Train Experience. Cruise along the Katherine River as it cuts it way through the spectacular Nitmiluk Gorge, one of the region's most ancient and wonderous sights. In the evening, tuck into a fabulous meal back on board and enjoy a tipple in The Outback Explorer Lounge with your fellow travellers.

After a delicious breakfast you’ll arrive in Alice Springs, a town set in the heart of the Red Centre. Choose from a range of Off Train Experiences including off road cycling, a guided tour of Desert Park and a chance to get up close and personal to native species at the Reptile Centre. As darkness falls, you and your fellow travellers will head over to the historic Alice Springs Telegraph Station, where you’ll dine on a barbeque dinner served under the glittering night sky.

Today The Ghan rolls into Manguri Station, from which you’ll travel into the opal mining township of Coober Pedy. The town is most intriguing, with the majority of residents living underground, which is also where you’ll enjoy a gourmet lunch. In the afternoon, a guided tour of the Breakaways will ensue, gaze out over the incredible panorama of colourful low hills that were once an inland sea. In the evening, enjoy another delightful dinner back on board as your journey continues into the night.

Today you’ll arrive in Adelaide, South Australia’s happening capital. After waving goodbye to The Ghan you’ll be transferred to your hotel for the next three nights. The rest of the day is left free for you to explore the city at your own pace. Dine in award winning restaurants, soak up the atmosphere in Adelaide Central Market, or take a relaxed stroll along the banks of the River Torrens.

Journey through the gorgeous Adelaide Hills and into the Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s premier and most loved wine producing regions. The day will be full of delicious regional food, stunning scenery and of course, wine tasting! You’ll sample tipples from Château Yaldara, Peter Lehmann Winery, Lambert Estate Wines as well as a visit to the state-of-the-art cellar at Wolf Blass Wines.

Spend your last full day in Adelaide at your leisure. Head to the North Terrace boulevard for a cultural fix, here you’ll find the South Australian Museum and Art Gallery of South Australia. Those looking to hit the shops should make tracks for Rundle Street and Rundle Mall, there’s also an abundance of restaurants and bars here for those looking to continue experiencing world class wining and dining. The following morning it’s time to check out as your expedition comes to an end.
