Ten miles south of the famous Diani Beach, Chale Island is Kenya’s only private island resort and offers a communal castaway experience unlike anywhere else in the country. 61 rooms and suites mean there’s never a crowd but always an atmosphere. Seven bars and restaurants ensure you’re never short of choice and there’s always somewhere to go. In addition, The Sands is home to the only overwater suite in Kenya and an overwater bar which provides a sunset experience complete with suspended hammocks and designer cocktails. You have easy access to Diani Beach and the rest of the Kenya coast, but you might not find a reason to use it.

ISLAND ACTIVITIES

You might choose to do absolutely nothing except graze the menus and enjoy the sun but, if you do feel like branching out, you won’t be short of options. Snorkel or scuba at the island’s reefs, sail among the coastal mangroves, or kayak through the clear waters beside the shore. Indulge in a little pampering with massages, therapies, and treatments at the Maisha Poa Spa. Get out onto the ocean for deep sea fishing or stay on dry land for yoga in the sand. Dinner on the Beach

Jahazi Beach Bar

Pull a stool up to a ship-shaped bar, right on the sand. Order light bites and drinks from 10am to 10pm at this intimate oceanfront outlet.

Baharini Restaurant

Take a seat on the shaded terrace of The Sands’ main Baharini Restaurant for delicious dining at any time. For dinner, select from an a la carte range of International and African favourites.

Barafu Bar

Soft sofas surround large wooden tables to create the perfect space for hanging out, chatting, or just soaking up the atmosphere in The Sand’s main bar. Beers, wines, cocktails, and speciality coffees are available to choose alongside an extensive range of cigars. Open 8am until late.
