It's home to iconic structures such as the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, plus the city plays host to world-class events, including Vivid Sydney, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, and of course, the New Year's Eve celebrations.

But there’s more to New South Wales than Sydney. Just under an hour’s drive outside the city, you’ll find the Blue Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Area. Spend your days walking the trails, visiting cliff-top lookouts, waterfalls, and sandstone tablelands. Explore by foot, bicycle, or e-bike, and if you’re an adrenaline seeker, you’ll enjoy abseiling, rock climbing and canyoning. Alternatively, take the Scenic Railway for epic views of this wilderness area.

A short two-hour flight from Sydney is the Pacific paradise of Lord Howe Island. Home to a small population of 350 and with no mobile coverage, you can be sure of a true eco-retreat! Mountains and cliffs give way to sub-tropical rainforests, beaches, and clear lagoons. Explore the coral reef, home to over 500 fish species, or take a walk up to Kim's Lookout for dreamy island views.

A trip to Orlando is the perfect Easter family getaway. We recommend taking the kids to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. After all, what could be better at Eastertime than thrills, fun and excitement? Plus, the weather at this time of year isn’t too hot, and it’s drier than the summer months. It'll be a holiday to remember.

CHERRY BLOSSOM IN JAPAN

The annual flowering of cherry blossom (Sakura) trees should be on everyone’s wish list. They blossom in early February on the southern island of Okinawa before moving gradually northward and finally flowering in Hokkaido near the end of May.

The confetti-like displays are made even more exciting by their delicate nature, lasting anywhere from two weeks to two days; just a brief shower can ruin the petals! Japanese families celebrate with ‘hanami’ (‘hana’ meaning flower and ‘mi’ meaning view) parties and picnics under the blossoming trees.

For the best views, we’d recommend heading to Tokyo and taking a stroll through the botanical gardens of Shinjuku Gyoen, Ueno Park, and Chidorigafuci. With over a thousand cherry trees scattered throughout, there are plenty of great spots to sit, relax, and enjoy the views. If you’re going to Kyoto, head to Higashiyama district and walk the two-kilometre Philosopher’s Path, lined with hundreds of cherry trees acting as pink frothy parasols.
It isn’t just the beautiful landscape that’s transformed by blossoming trees; many restaurants' menus are updated to include blossom-scented mochi (sweet rice balls) and taiyaki (filled fish-shaped cakes). And even beer is brewed from the cherry blossom petals!
