Where’s hot in May?

Get more inspiration

There's something magical about a May holiday...

Bank holidays, warmer temperatures, and perhaps the most “spring-like” month of them all. May is the perfect time to quench your thirst for travel. Sure, a May in the UK often sees sunny and fine weather. But nothing beats an exotic escape of sparkling warm waters and tranquil surroundings. Try some sightseeing in North America, explore a less-crowded Asia, or unwind and relax on an idyllic island in the Indian Ocean. There are many hot (but not humid) destinations to visit in the magical month of May.

The Indian Ocean

At this time of year, there’s no searing heat, nor monsoons. But instead, dreamy temperatures circulating around 30°C. With weather like this, activities such as snorkelling, sunbathing, dolphin watching and island-hopping, should be at the top of your to-list. But, if you prefer something a little more relaxing, the dry weather and warm seas are perfect for long beach days. The Indian Ocean is home to many picturesque islands, all awaiting your exploration. Which one will you pick?  The Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, and the east coast of Sri Lanka, each boast their own unique charm. If one thing’s for sure, they all offer an unforgettable spring escape.

America

So, why choose America in May? Here, most destinations boast not-too-hot temperatures. This is great for comfortably visiting some of the USA’s most iconic attractions. For example, the popular city of Las Vegas, clocks in at 25°C. Perfect for pool parties, strolling down to the strip, and visiting the extraordinary Grand Canyon. America tends to be busier during the summer months. So May is a chance to avoid the crowds and enjoy peaceful surroundings. Despite the quieter atmosphere, there are plenty of fun and lively events and festivals held during this time.

Asia

30-degree heat, endless days of relaxation, and often lower prices. It’s fair to say, May is the ideal time to visit Asia. Bali, Lombok and the lesser-known Cambodia - are all idyllic choices for a glorious May getaway. Sunbathe on pristine sands, before cooling off in the warm, crystal-blue waters. Not to mention, there are plenty of must-see sights across Asia. And, the sprawling temple complex of Angkor Wat in Cambodia is definitely one of them. This dream-like destination is perfect for a week - or two - holiday for couples, families, or friendship groups alike.

Hong Kong and Singapore

Known for beautiful restaurants and heaps of culture, a holiday to Hong Kong is one of our top picks for a glorious May getaway. Here, you’ll find the popular "Disneyland" and other famous attractions. While Singapore boasts iconic gardens, fun-filled activities, and so much more. This is an exotic spring trip with a difference. Try a wild water sport, head out on an exquisite jungle tour or explore the intriguing museums. Because these destinations are situated close to the equator, they boast a hot, humid climate. And temperatures average between 23-29°C during this time of year.
