From the red-carpeted casinos, to the rooftop restaurants, clubs and bars, it’s a feast of luxury and excess. Fancy seeing it for yourself? Take a look below for our full breakdown of when’s the best time for a holiday to Las Vegas.
When it comes to the weather in Las Vegas, the seasons aren’t too dissimilar from the UK. It’s hottest in July and coldest in December, although generally speaking, it tends to be a fair bit warmer than it is over here. Between June and August, average highs sit around 38°C to 41°C, which can get quite intense if you’re not used to the heat. A better time to go is either April and May, or September and October. During these months, you’ll get warm and sunny weather that’s perfect for days by the pool, but it won’t be too sweltering for when you want some time exploring.
With temperatures dropping to the single digits, winter is a slightly less popular time to visit Las Vegas. So, if you’re looking to find good flight and hotel deals, it’s worth considering a trip in either December or January. Even in the ‘low season’, this city is anything but quiet, with excitement and extravagance never in short supply. If you’re just wanting a taste of Las Vegas life, you can plan your visit on a weekday when rates are super low. But, if you’re after the full Vegas experience, it’s worth waiting until the weekend when the crowds pour in.
It's unlikely you’ll ever find an events calendar that rivals what Las Vegas has got going on. Shows, concerts and casino cocktail nights are a daily occurrence all year round, and you can take your pick from an eclectic range of club nights and parties. But, depending on what piques your interest, you might want to coordinate your visit with a particular event. Gambling-fans won’t want to miss the World Series of Poker that kicks-off in May. And music-lovers might fancy seeing chart-topping artists perform at the IheartRadio Music Festival in October.
If you’re planning a holiday to Las Vegas, chances are you’ll want to visit the Grand Canyon while you’re there. The drive to the canyon sits at around four hours, taking you out of Nevada and into the state of Arizona. So, if you’re going by car, an overnight stay might be more relaxing. But, if you opt for an exciting helicopter tour, you be there and back in a day. In terms of when to visit the Grand Canyon, the comfortable temperatures during spring and autumn are ideal for hiking and wildlife-watching. Or, if you’re just looking to soak up some blue-sky scenery, a summer trip ticks all the boxes.
If you’ve decided to plan a trip during spring, then prepare to see Las Vegas at its best. This season is fantastic for getting out and exploring the bustling streets and boulevards, as you look out for iconic buildings and monuments. Take a stroll down the Las Vegas Strip, soaking up the all the music and bright lights, before heading to the Fountains of Bellagio to watch a colourful water display. And, if you want to escape the city, you can plan a daytrip to Red Rock Canyon. Only a 20-minute journey away, it’s perfect for a scenic drive or hike.
When summer rolls around, there’s no better way to combat the hot temperatures than by attending an all-out Las Vegas pool party. Complete with a wave pool and lazy river, Mandalay Bay Beach is a well-loved spot. Or, you can catch world-class DJs at the Venetian Resort’s Tao Beach Dayclub. All across the city it’s prime party season. So, even if a pool party’s not your thing, there’s an endless list of events to choose from, from adults-only club nights to family-friendly music concerts.
A trip to Las Vegas in autumn is sure to be fantastic. In September and October, you’ll be met with blue skies and warm, sunny weather. So, you can spend the morning sunbathing by your hotel pool, before setting out on a fun-filled afternoon. Equally-thrilling during the day and at night, a ride on the High Roller Observation Wheel is a great way to get aerial views of the city. Then, you can explore the ever-illuminated Fremont Street, before heading to a fine-dining restaurant for an evening of total luxury.
Although winter is a little cooler compared to the other seasons, this isn’t really a problem when you’re visiting Las Vegas. You can put on your coat and take a wander down the brightly-lit boulevard. Or, make tracks for one of the city’s indoor attractions. If you’re feeling lucky, you can step into a glittering casino for a spin of the roulette wheel, or a game of blackjack or poker. And, for your evening entertainment, you can head to the theatre to see a classic Las Vegas show.
The colour, chaos and crowds are what make this city such a fun place to visit. So, the main holiday months are your best bet if you want a quintessential Las Vegas experience. You can’t go wrong with April, May, September and October, as these are all popular, party-loaded months. But, equally, there’s never a dull moment in Sin City, so any time of year is bound to be a hoot.
