Be it hiking, climbing, horse riding, surfing, camping, or kayaking - the possibilities are seemingly endless! Many places around the world boast a fantastic adventure break - from South Africa to the USA. Whether you’ve booked one or are considering an adventure holiday, we’ve compiled a list of essential things to pack.
Let’s take a look at some of the basics.
Adventure holidays are often filled with action-packed activities, so maintaining personal hygiene is vital! When packing, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrush, shower gel, hair products, shaving items and more should all be on your list. It’s important to note that some of the necessities may be provided at your accommodation, and you might also be able to buy some when you arrive.
On an adventure holiday, you’ll spend a lot of time on foot - so look after your feet! You could be doing anything from hiking along nature trails to climbing a mountain - but if you’re not wearing the proper footwear, you won’t perform to the best of your ability, let alone enjoy the experience! Look out for shoes that offer padding around the heel and fit the contours of your feet. Our top tip? Wear your walking shoes to travel in. Not only do walking shoes take up lots of room in your suitcase, but airports are often massive places to walk around. It’s a win-win situation.
While this item is needed for those relaxing beach breaks in a hot and sunny location, waterproof sunscreen should be considered essential for any escape, including an adventure-filled one. It’s excellent at protecting your skin from painful sunburn, in and out of water, and it’s also good at protecting you while you sweat from your energetic activities. Just remember to keep reapplying!
Next up, there’s nothing handier than a travel towel. And this is especially useful if you expect to enjoy water sports or multiple activities where you’ll need to dry off quickly. The best thing about a micro-fibre towel is that it can be rolled into a tiny bundle and won’t take up too much room in your suitcase.
Simple clothing items are necessary if you’re heading on an adventure holiday. You must be comfortable, no matter which activity you take part in. However, clothes tend to take up a lot of room in your suitcase. So, we would recommend packing not only comfortable clothes but also light, breathable fabrics such as synthetic materials or cotton and possibly swimwear, depending on the type of activity. Try rolling up the clothes to maximise space.
Nothing will keep your energy levels up quite like healthy food and drinking plenty of water. These will be particularly useful if you’ve had a long day of travelling or the weather becomes scorching. Simply packing an extra drink and a snack can provide that all-important peace of mind on holiday.
A backpack is essential for carrying, well, the essentials! A small one with a few handy pockets should do the trick! They’re great for carrying things you’ll likely need ‘on the go’, such as towels, water, headphones, spare clothing, etc. And the best thing is, when wearing them, they’re out of sight and very easy to carry.
There are lots of little items that could be useful on your adventure holiday. How about a headlamp? Or a money belt? A compass could also be handy. Sometimes equipment like this will be provided or available from a local shop. But if you already have some of these adventure essentials, it’s worth bringing them.
Your essential list for any holiday will include your passport, tickets, and the local currency. But one thing to consider on an adventure holiday is how you carry them around and keep them safe while participating in activities. It’s best to ensure they are in a protective cover, away from any elements that could damage them.
With these essentials packed and ready to go, there’ll be no stopping you. However adventurous you fancy going, our Travel Specialists can tailor-make the perfect holiday for you.
