Australia is so vast that you can enjoy a multi-centre holiday within its borders – and we’d definitely recommend visiting two, if not three, states on your visit. The classic combination of Sydney, Rock and Reef is an oldie but a goodie. Sydney makes the perfect starting point for your adventure. With iconic landmarks, a top dining scene and epic beaches – plus easy day trips available to the Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley – you’ll never be short of things to do.

Meanwhile, the Red Centre offers extraordinary desert plains, weathered mountain ranges, rocky gorges and some of Australia's most sacred Aboriginal sites. Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is home to the famed Ayers Rock. One of the most magical experiences you can have in Oz is to dine under the stars, in the shadow of spiritual Uluru.

A trip to Australia wouldn’t be complete without seeing the Great Barrier Reef. Spanning 1,400 miles, it’s the largest coral reef system in the world and you can swim, snorkel, dive and sail this living masterpiece. Cairns, Port Douglas and the Whitsundays are all great gateways from which to explore the reef and soak up the endless Aussie sunshine.

More than half way between the UK and Down Under, Asia is a great jumping off point on your Australia multi-centre holiday. The options are almost endless. How about a stop in Singapore? The multicultural Lion City has influences from India, China and Malaysia, along with eye-popping attractions and a wonderful dining scene, as hawker centres compete with Michelin-starred restaurants.

Bali is also a great option. From its miles of white-sand beaches to its lush rice paddies, this Indonesian island is incredibly diverse. You can expect a world-class food and wellness scene, alongside an engaging native culture.

Malaysia is another great Asian destination. See the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, relax on Langkawi’s beaches, and even see wild orangutans in Borneo. Or head to Thailand. From the hill tribes in Chiang Mai, to the temples of Bangkok, to the beaches of Phuket and Koh Samui – wherever you are, you’re sure to find great food, friendly people and cultural sites.

One of Australia’s closest neighbours is New Zealand, and both countries complement each other perfectly for a multi-centre holiday. Get your fix of sun and sea in Oz, where you can swim with whale sharks, snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef or sail around the Whitsundays. Then head to New Zealand and marvel at the lush green landscapes, mountain ranges, glaciers, geysers and lakes – and their own epic beaches, too.

One of our favourite ways to discover New Zealand is on a road trip, so why not hire a car or campervan and set off exploring? Self-drive itineraries give you the freedom to set your own pace and follow a mapped-out route. Auckland to Christchurch is a classic option, allowing you to tick off all of New Zealand’s icons. Enjoy world-class food and wine, see geothermal wonders, explore vibrant cities, hike soaring mountains and admire majestic fiords. Combine all this with the friendly locals and a great road network, and you’re all set for a holiday to remember.

Australia has more than its fair share of glorious, white-sand beaches. But if you never tire of a good beach – especially when a pool and a cocktail is never too far away – a multi-centre holiday to Australia and a Pacific Island could be the perfect option for you.
