Day 1: Arrive in Washington D.C
Arrive in Washington D.C and make your way to your hotel. After check in you can spend the afternoon you can familiarise yourself with your surroundings or simply relax. At 6:00pm you will be treated to a Welcome Reception with your fellow travellers at the hotel.
Day 2: Washington D.C
Embrace the national heritage of the nation’s capital today by joining a local expert and visiting some of the most significant landmarks in the city, including the White House, the Washington Monument, and the National Mall which stretches from the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol Building. See the World War II memorial as well as Arlington National Cemetery, the resting place of many American heroes. The afternoon is yours to explore the city as you please.

Day 3: Washington D.C – Mount Vernon – Yorktown - Williamsburg
Travel today to the home of the nation’s first president, George Washington, along the banks of the Potomac River in Mount Vernon. Continue on to the Yorktown Victory Centre where you can watch Revolutionary War history come to life. Once you arrive in Williamsburg, settled in 1638 as Middle Plantation, you can explore America’s past even further as well as enjoy a local cuisine.

Day 4: Jamestown – Colonial Williamsburg
Jamestown is your next location, the first English settlement in the New World, established by John Smith. Your guide will educate you on the history of the early colonists and explain how tough life was for them when they came to America in 1607. The recreated forts and Native American villages are yours to discover as well as a replica of one of three ships that sailed from England to Virginia. Your next destination is the 18th Century world of Colonial Williamsburg, Britain’s largest colony in the New World in the 16 and 1700s, where you can converse with a costumed Federalist, meet a local blacksmith, and take in a fife and drum parade.

Day 5: Williamsburg – Monticello - Shenandoah National Park
Start your day with a visit to St. John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia, the spot where George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were inspired by Patrick Henry's passionate "Give me liberty or give me death" speech. See Thomas Jefferson’s own neoclassical Italian manse nestled atop a hill in Monticello, and continue on the Skyline Drive into Shenandoah National Park to marvel at the stunning vistas that will take your breath away as it once did the early American settlers. Keep your eye out for deer, black bears, and falcons. In the evening you will receive a presentation at your hotel from a local expert on the areas ecology.

Day 6: Shenandoah National Park – Harpers Ferry - Gettysburg
Explore the quaint village of Harpers Ferry today, a small location with a large history, being the home to the federal arsenal captured briefly by abolitionist John Brown's small army, who went on to be defeated by marines led by Robert E. Lee, giving the small town enough fame to be a staple of American history. Afterwards, continue on to Gettysburg where you can indulge in the narrative of the U.S Civil War by visiting the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Centre which houses a beautiful Battle of Gettysburg painting.

Day 7: Gettysburg – Lancaster - Philadelphia
Gettysburg is renowned as the location for the pivotal turning point in the Civil War as General George Meade’s Army of the Potomac defeated Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. Just four months after the battle was over, Abraham Lincoln gave his speech on “A new birth of freedom” in his Gettysburg address. From warzone to lands of peace, continue on to Lancaster’s traditional Amish agricultural community where a local expert will show you around the lush fields and farmhouses and explain the simple way of life the Amish stick by. Depart for Philadelphia next, where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Visit the historic district of the city, filled with renowned landmark buildings, before spending the evening with your fellow travellers at a festive Farewell Dinner.

Day 8: Philadelphia – Depart Washington D.C
Begin the day with a visit to the National Constitution Centre, an interactive museum tracing the History of the U.S Constitution and its ramifications. Discover the Liberty Bell in Historic Park and see Independence Hall before heading off back to Washington D.C where a transfer will take you to the airport for your return flight home.
