Day 1: Arrive in Muscat
Arrive in the city of Muscat where you will meet with your guide who will take you to your hotel. Once checked in you will embark on a half day city tour beginning with the old sector of Muscat. Visit the Bait Zubair Museum which was originally founded as a house by a rich merchant whose hobby was to collect antiques and take photographs, he converted the house into a museum to showcase the cultural artefacts of Oman. Continue on to Al Alam Palace, the official palace of the Sultan Qaboos, which is flanked by two forts; Jalali Fort and Mirani Fort. Jalali Fort is a refurbished fort that is now used as a museum for guests of state and royalty only. Later, drive along to the Muttrah Souq, one of the oldest souq’s in Oman whose mystical scents fill the narrow alleyways and is an ideal location to purchase souvenirs before returning to the hotel for the evening.

Enjoy breakfast and continue your adventure, heading to the Nizwa Souq where every Friday there is a lively cattle market where cattle owners sell their livestock to locals. Head afterwards to the Nizwa Fort which features an enormous round tower built by a sultan in the 17th century as a means of defence. The fort dominates the area, with the town being built around the vast structure. The top of the tower is accessed by narrow winding stairs and through heavy wooden doors. From atop the tower, travellers can see amazing views over the Nizwa cityscape. The next landmark on your journey is the castle of Bahla, a 12th century mud fort once known as a mystical village. Drive on to the old village of Al Hamrah for a walk through to Bait Al Safa, a local museum made by the villagers to showcase the Omani house. After the visit, traverse the farms of the locals before driving on to Mifah, a charming village filled with mud huts that date back hundreds of years. Continue on through the Grand Canyon of Jebel Shams, meaning “Mountain of Suns”, the highest point in Oman. Enjoy a walk around the area before returning to your hotel before sunset.
