Day 1: Christchurch – Picton
Leave Christchurch and travel along the coast to Picton, journeying past Kaikoura with its abundance of photo opportunities and the chance to see New Zealand’s fur seals. Having admired the beauty of your natural surroundings en-route, the afternoon is yours to explore Picton at your leisure.
Day 2: Picton – Abel Tasman
Explore the Marlborough Sounds during a free morning before heading through Marlborough, the premier wine region in New Zealand. Take part in a wine-tasting at a local winery to discover some famous Sauvignon Blanc and then visit beautiful golden sandy beaches before heading for your exclusive wilderness accommodation for seafood and a BBQ dinner.

Day 3: Abel Tasman
A full day to experience the area with its many activities, walks and adventures. Take a trek along the coastal track for a visit to some of the best beaches in New Zealand or enjoy one of the many optional extras available, which include sailing or sea-kayaking. BBQ facilities will be provided to self-cater during the evening.

Day 4: Abel Tasman – Hanmer Springs
Leave Abel Tasman behind and journey to the bubbling pools of relaxation and rejuvenation to be found at Hanmer Springs. Having enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Kahurangi and Nelson National Parks en-route, spend the afternoon relaxing in the hot pools.

Day 5: Hanmer Springs – Kaikoura
Known for its vast array of wildlife, including whales, dolphins and seals, spent time enjoying Kaikoura and choose from a number of optional activities, including a walk along the cliff tops to enjoy amazing views or take a whale-watching cruise. The evening is then spent in the charming coastal village.

Day 6: Kaikoura via Christchurch – Franz Josef
Take a trip across the stunning Canterbury Plains and pay a brief visit to Christchurch before heading over the famous Arthur’s Pass and down onto the West Coast. Visiting both Hokitika and Bushman’s Centre en-route, the day ends at the famous glacier at Franz Josef, where you’ll overnight in a rainforest lodge.

Day 7: Franz Josef
A full day in the World Heritage area of Franz Josef where you can explore the many walking trails and the glacier, with the option of a guided tour of the latter.

Day 8: Franz Josef – Makorora
Take in the breathtaking scenery of a journey down the coast to Mount Aspiring National Park, including the chance to gaze over Lake Matheson, the most photographed in New Zealand. Visit a waterfall and travel over a spectacular alpine pass before arriving in the National Park itself, where there are numerous optional activities available, including scenic flights and jet boating. Overnight, stay in chalet accommodation.

Day 9-11: Makarora – Queenstown
Leave Makarora to head for Queenstown, known as the adventure capital of the world. En-route, pay a visit to the town of Wanaka and then head for Bungy Bridge to see people taking the plunge as they experience the extreme sport. After sampling Queenstown’s lively nightspots, the next two days are free to explore.

Day 12: Queenstown – Doubtful Sound
Leaving Queenstown behind, head for the stunning scenery of the Fiordland National Park and arrive at Doubtful Sound, where you’ll board a purpose-built boat for your chance to cruise on the beautiful water. With the help of a nature guide, you’ll have the chance to see fur seals, penguins and dolphins, while you can also take part in some sea kayaking to get closer to nature. The night is spent in shared cabins onboard in a secluded bay.

Day 13: Doubtful Sound – Central Otago
Leave the boat to travel to the Otago Region, where you can examine interesting relics from the gold rush era. Ice curling is an optional extra for evening entertainment before you spend the night in unique accommodation in Otago Gold Country.

Day 14: Central Otago – Rangitata
Grab mountain bikes and ride out onto parts of the Otago Gold Mining Trail, which is suitable for all levels of riding abilities. Continue on to Rangitata, one of the oldest sheep stations in the area.

Day 15: Rangitata – Christchurch
Travel to Christchurch for further exploration of the city before your trip comes to an end.
