Overview

Ever wondered how to hot-foot it from South Australia to the Northern Territory in just two weeks? This Outback Adventure is your answer, starting in multicultural Adelaide and ending in the Northern Territory's capital, Darwin.

Kick things off in Australia’s oldest wine region, The Clare Valley, before admiring the precious opals mined in Coober Pedy. Then you’ll leave Glorious South Australia behind, as you cross the border into the heat of the Northern Territory.

There’s no doubt you’ll be wowed by dramatic scenery in numerous national parks and World Heritage Sites, including the mighty Uluru in the majestic Red Centre. Raise a glass in the shadow of this iconic landmark, and get up close to Aboriginal art from past millennia. You’ll get a sense of community in Alice Springs, as you learn how the locals manage everyday tasks in this remote area. Go searching for crocodiles in Kakadu, then continue on to sun-soaked Darwin.

There will be time to wander around the heritage buildings and admire the huge panoramas capturing the vast Southern Australian Outback, as well as model cars and more in the Jeff Morgan Gallery.

Fill up on a hearty breakfast before crossing the border into the Northern Territory. Today is all about Australia's spiritual heart, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Raise a glass by the world-famous monolith of Uluru, and watch as the sunset turns the sky bright orange, maroon and purple.

The next day, you'll rise before dawn. It'll be worth it, though, as you'll be able to watch the Red Centre go through a colourful sunrise transformation. Get up close to Uluru as you navigate around its 11-kilometre base, then explore the landscapes of Kata Tjuta. Take a break in the shade of Walpa Gorges humongous domes, keeping your eyes peeled for rock art left behind by the Anangu people.

Travel in the shadows of the mighty Macdonnell Ranges, as you journey towards Alice Springs. This desert city is bursting with Aboriginal galleries. And it's home to the historical 1872 Telegraph Station, one of 12 along the overland telegraph line, which runs from 3,200 kilometres from Adelaide to Darwin. And you can end the day with yet another breath-taking sunset, as you scale Anzac Hill.

The next day, you can find out more about Alice Springs' Aboriginal culture on an informative tour about the Arrernte People. Next, you'll get a flavour of the strong community spirit when you visit the Royal Flying Doctor Museum. You can learn about how life-saving health services are carried out over this vast region.

The night draws to a close with a barbecue under the stars alongside the Falzon family. There’ll be star-gazing, tales of self-sufficient living and, if you’re lucky, the odd tune on the didgeridoo.
