Day 1: Arrive Galle
Arrive at the airport in Colombo to meet your guide before being transferred to Galle, where the rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 2: Galle
Spend a day seeing the sights of Galle on the south west tip of the country, starting with the opportunity to visit the Kosgoda Marine Turtle hatchery. Here, you’ll be able to see the work that is being put in to try and help protect these endangered animals, which includes collecting eggs which can then hatch in a safe environment before youngsters are released into the wild. In the afternoon, you’ll be able to explore Galle itself, and spend time investigating one of the best examples of a living fortified city built by Europeans in South and South East Asia.

Day 3: Thalpe
Your final day in the area gets underway with a trip to the Handunugoda Tea, Cinnamon, Pepper and Rubber Plantation, a 200 acre property located close to the coast. As well as being home to a wide range of wildlife, the estate produces a number of specialist teas, including its flagship virgin white tea. After learning the art of making Ceylon tea, you’ll return to the hotel for a relaxing afternoon at leisure.

Day 4: Galle – Yala
Leaving Galle behind, enjoy a scenic drive along Sri Lanka’s stunning southern coast to the Yala National Park, stopping off en-route to pay a visit to the Dondra. At the most southern tip of the country, you’ll visit the oldest stone building in the country, an ancient shrine which dates back to the seventh century AD.

Day 5: Yala
Spend a day exploring the Yara National Park with a safari, where you’ll have the chance to see one of the highest-density leopard populations to be found anywhere in the world. Elephant, deer and crocodiles are amongst the other species that you could see on your trip before you head to the holy city of Kataragama, where thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims journey to every August.

Yala National Park is closed for approximately 6 weeks in September/October and therefore jeep safaris will operate to Bundala or Udawalawe during this time
Day 6: Yala – Udawalawe National Park
Moving on to the Udawalawe National Park, you’ll pay a visit to the Elephant Transit Home, where young orphaned animals are cared for before being released back into the wild. You’ll then be able to see the animals in their natural environment during a jeep safari in the National Park, which is home a varied range of species alongside extensive birdlife.

Day 7: Udawalawe – Beruwala
After a further, optional, early morning safari, leave the National Park behind you to head towards the West Coast and the town of Beruwala, which is famed for its stunning golden beaches. During the morning, you’ll pay a visit to the country residence of the famous architect Geoffrey Bawa, with the stunning Italian-inspired gardens found at Lunuganga being amongst the most beautiful to be found anywhere in Asia.

Day 8: Beruwala – Mount Lavinia
After a relaxing morning, head for the city of Colombo, where you can enjoy the chance to take a tour of the bustling commercial capital of the country. A traditional Sri Lankan high tea is an option available at your hotel at the end of the day.

Day 9: Depart Colombo
Head for the airport in Colombo for the end of your trip, and the return journey home.
