Day 1: Colombo – Anamaduwa
Arrive in Colombo before being transferred to the Mud House, your unique accommodation at the foot of the Rock Temple in Anamaduwa. As the name suggests, you’ll be staying in rustic accommodation in private and individually designed huts in the environmentally friendly resort, with lunch on arrival being a traditional curry and rice dish made using ingredients grown on its own farm.

Day 2: Anamaduwa
Enjoy a visit to the nearby Paramakanda Rock Temple, which dates back thousands of years. Featuring a series of shrine rooms below the overhanging rocks, the temple is also home to a number of rock inscriptions, ancient murals and Buddha statues while a walk to the top of the rock will provide you with the chance to admire the surrounding area. Following the temple trip, there is the opportunity to explore the local villages on foot or by bicycle to see what rural life is like.

Day 3: Anamaduwa – Matale (Madulkelle)
Head for the hills as you journey into the Knuckles Mountain Range to the Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge, where you’ll be able to enjoy breathtaking views over the lush vegetation that surrounds the 25 acre plantation where you will spend the night. The perfect location to take things easy, you could also book yourself in for a relaxing massage or take a dip in the pool, which overlooks the valleys below.

Day 4: Madulkelle
Enjoy a morning trek through the plantations to enjoy the stunning views of the World Heritage Site around you, with crystal clear streams and stunning waterfalls to be discovered alongside dense woodland and terraced paddy fields where locals tend to their crops. You’ll then be able to relax at leisure back at the lodge.

Day 5: Madulkelle – Ella
Head away from Madulkelle for the journey south to Ella; a small sleepy town to be found on the edge of Hill Country. The perfect area to simply relax and take life easy, you’ll be staying at the impressive 98 Acres Resort and Spa, an eco-friendly boutique hotel located on a scenic tea estate with views over Little Adam’s Peak; the smaller relative of the 2,200m Adam’s Peak mountain found in nearby Samanala.

Day 6: Ella
A day at leisure to explore the stunning beauty of the area around Ella, with the opportunity to head out and explore some of the best natural scenery to be found anywhere in Sri Lanka. Admire the views from Little Adam’s Peak or take a more challenging walk up Ella Rock for spectacular views of the valleys below. You can also admire the beautiful waterfalls to be found nearby at Ravana Ella Falls and Bambaragama, spend time seeking out the extensive birdlife or hire a bike for a ride through the plantations. Alternatively, relax by the pool or enjoy a treatment in the on-site spa.

Day 7: Ella – Udawalawe
Move away from the plantations and travel to Udawalawe for the opportunity to get close to nature and see the best of the wildlife that Sri Lanka has to offer. After a visit to the Elephant Transit Home to see orphaned youngsters being cared for before their release into the wild, you’ll head into the Udawalawe National Park itself for a jeep safari to see these majestic animals in their natural environment. Alongside the Sri Lankan elephant, you can also expect to see leopard, wild boar and water buffalo as well as a wide range of birdlife.

Day 8: Udawalawe – Galle
Travel to the city of Galle on the south coast for the final day of your trip. On arrival, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the old town, including Galle Fort itself. Built by the Portuguese back in the 1580s before being fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century, the fort in the final World Heritage Site you’ll have chance to visit before heading for the airport for your return trip home.
