Designed with families in mind, this eleven day tour of Sri Lanka provides plenty of opportunities to see the wild array of wildlife, both on safari and up close at the Elephant Orphanage and during a stay on Jims Farm Villa. With plenty to do for both young and old alike, you’ll discover how Sri Lankan’s live, learn to cook their cuisine and then spend time relaxing on the most beautiful beaches on the island.

Day 1: Arrive Colombo – Horathapola
Having arrived at Colombo International Airport, you’ll be taken by transfer to your overnight accommodation at the Horathapola Estate, where you’ll be able to stay in a restored plantation bungalow dating back to the 1900s. As a fully functioning organic coconut estate, you won’t want to miss out on the chance to sample the local produce.

Day 2: Horathapola – Habarana
Take a journey through the countryside as you head for the ‘Cultural Triangle’, which is to be found in the heart of Sri Lanka and provides the opportunity to learn more about the history of the island. Featuring the historical old cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya, the area is home to numerous World Heritage Sites.

Day 3: Habarana
The day starts with an early morning trip to Hiriwadunna for a tour of the village, which includes the opportunity to travel by Tuk Tuk, on a traditional bullock cart and out onto water by catamaran. Later in the day is a visit to one of the main attractions in the area as you climb up Lions Rock to take in the stunning views of the ancient town of Sigiriya from the 200 metre granite stone that rises from the jungle below.

Day 4: Habarana – Matale
Staying inside the Cultural Triangle, the next stop on your journey will be Jims Farm Villa, located close to the city of Matale and the impressive landscape of the Knuckles Mountain Range. Offering personalised service as you stay at one of two villas, youngsters will also be able to meet the various animals that live at the real life working Sri Lankan farm.

Day 5: Matale
A day at leisure to enjoy exploring both the farm, and its surroundings. For those who don’t want to venture far, there is the chance to learn about the crops that are grown at the farm itself while a cookery class will see you select the best ingredients to prepare your own Sri Lankan curry with rice over an open fire. Alternatively, explore the region around the resort by bicycle or with a Tuk Tuk tour to a nearby village to see how the locals live.

Day 6: Matale – Udawalawe
Enjoy a scenic drive from the hill country as you journey south from Matale to the edge of the Udawalawe National Park, with the remainder of the day being at leisure following your arrival.

Day 7: Udawalawe National Park
One of the main highlights of the trip will see you given the chance to explore the wildlife that calls Sri Lanka home. The day starts with a visit to the Elephant Transit Home, where you’ll be able to watch orphaned youngsters feeding as they are helped to prepare for being released back into the wild. You’ll then head out into the National Park on a jeep safari with the opportunity to see the elephants in their natural environment alongside a wide range of other mammals. Udawalawe is also a fine birdwatching location, with a number of birds of prey attracted by the open parkland and waterbird being drawn in by the reservoir.

Day 8: Udawalawe – Beruwala
From the National Park, your trip takes you towards the coast and the area around the towns of Beruwala and Bentota, with its golden beaches being ideal for sunbathing and a bay where you can enjoy swimming all year round.

Days 9 & 10: Beruwala
Spend two days at leisure with the opportunity to lie back and relax before you return home. Relax by the pool or take a walk along the golden beach, with the chance to take a dip in the Indian Ocean or take part in the numerous watersport activities that are available along the coast. Alternatively, check out some of the activities that are offered in the local area, such as boat cruises on the nearby Bentota River.

Day 11: Beruwala departure
Leave Beruwala behind to head for the airport and your return journey home.
