Day 1: Arrive in Osaka
On arrival in Osaka, you'll be met and taken to your accommodation via private transfer. You then have the rest of the day to explore the city or settle in at your leisure.

Day 2: Osaka
The second day sees you heading out on a tour of Osaka by public transportation. Begin with a visit to the historically significant Osaka Castle before continuing on to the Floating Garden Observatory where you can get incredible views of the city and bay. Finish off the tour with a visit to the shops and eateries of the Dotonbori district.

Day 3: Osaka - Mt. Koya
Kick off the morning by leaving your luggage at the front desk and taking a small bag with you for your overnight stay at Mt. Koya; home to an important sect of Buddhists. Ride aboard several trains and enjoy the views as you ascend the mountains before disembarking and riding a cable car to the peak of Mt. Koya. Visit Kongobunji Temple, the head monastery of Shingon Buddhism, and home to Japan’s largest rock garden, as well as the Garan temple complex. Walk to the Okonuin cemetery to find the mausoleum of Shingon Buddhism and settle in to your shukubo temple lodge where you can enjoy a shojin ryori Buddhist cuisine.

Day 4: Mt. Koya - Osaka
Spend the morning watching the local monks conduct their prayers before grabbing some breakfast. The rest of the day gives you the opportunity to explore the region before heading back to Osaka via the Nankai and Namba stations (at own expense).

Day 5: Osaka - Kyoto
Say goodbye to Osaka today as you head to the imperial capital, Kyoto to take a guided tour of some of the region's most iconic sites. Your first stop will be Kinkakuji Temple followed by Nijo Castle; two significant structures during the Edo Shogunate. Browse the wares and eateries of the lengthy Nishiki Market and finish off with an exploration of Sanjusangendo, a wooden temple that houses numerous effigies of the goddess Kannon.

Day 6: Kyoto
The day is yours to explore Kyoto at your own pace or join an optional tour to see specific nuances of the imperial capital. Attend a half day cycling tour (at own expense) around Kyoto's Golden Route, starting with the Golden Pavilion, continuing on to Ryoan Temple and finishing up at Saga-Arashiyama. Alternatively, you can head out on a half day tour of Arashiyama (at own expense), a charming region found in Kyoto's western outskirts. Sample some matcha tea at the Okochi Mountain Villa, walk amongst the bamboo groves and visit the Nonomiya Shrine before heading to Tenryuji, Arashiyama's largest temple.

Day 7: Kyoto - Kanazawa
Leave Kyoto behind and make your way to the station for a scheduled train departure to Kanazawa. Once you arrive, you'll make your own way to your designated accommodation and then have the rest of the day to explore or settle in.

Day 8: Kanazawa
Enjoy a guided tour of the city of Kanazawa today as you discover the traditional arts and crafts renowned throughout the region. Experience decorating a small lacquer plate or a pair of chopsticks before decorating a handkerchief using a traditional kimono cloth dyeing technique.

Day 9: Kanazawa - Kyoto
Head back to Kyoto on the express train from Kanazawa station on your own before spending one final night at your leisure in the former capital.

See everything you want to see in the city one last time before taking a private transfer to Kansai Airport for your return flight home.
