Days 1-3: St Petersburg
Your Asian adventure will start on Russian soil in the city of St Petersburg, located on the banks of the Neva River and regarded as one of the best kept secrets in Europe. You’ll spend three days exploring a city famed for its stunning architecture, and for being the birthplace of Russian president Vladimir Putin, with your own City Ambassador for a day to help guide you on your way. With plenty of history and heritage to explore, you’ll be able to visit a number of the sights, including the Summer Palace, St Issacs Cathedral, Palace Square and the Hermitage Theatre. Alternatively, you could gain a different view of the city from the numerous waterways on a boat or canal tour. On the evening of day three, you’ll leave St Petersburg behind on an overnight train journey to Moscow.
Days 4-6: Moscow
On arrival in the Russian capital, you’ll transfer to your hotel ahead of three days to discover the delights of Moscow. As in St Petersburg, you’ll be able to make use of your City Ambassador for a day to help gain your bearings and to aid you in getting around the numerous sights. Amongst the locations you may wish to visit are famous locations like the Kremlin, Red Square and the Bolshoi Theatre before you depart on the evening of day six to travel along the Trans Siberian Railway to Irkutsk.
Days 7-9: Trans Siberian Railway
You’ll spend three days watching the Russian landscape pass by as you travel more than 5,000km by rail on the famous Trans Siberian Railway. En-route, you’ll cross over the Ural Mountains – which is seen as the natural divide between Europe and Asia – and both the Irtysh and Ob Rivers as you head towards Irkutsk.
Day 10: Irkutsk
After three days on the train, you’ll arrive in Irkutsk before being transferred to your hotel. The day is then yours to explore the Siberian city with a range of optional sight-seeing options available, including the Trans Siberian Monument, Local History Museum and Decembrists Museum.
Day 11: Lake Baikal
Found close to Irkutsk is Lake Baikal; a huge rift lake that is home to an impressive array of unique plant and animal life. You’ll have chance to explore the area round the world’s oldest, largest and deepest freshwater lake, with a visit to the Limnological Museum being an option for those who wish to learn more about the area. You’ll then spend the night in a Siberian Guesthouse in the lake-side village of Listvyanka.
Days 12 & 13: Trans Mongolian Railway
Returning to Irkutsk, you’ll board the Trans Mongolian Railway to start the journey towards the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar.
Days 14 & 15: Ulaanbaatar & Ger Camp
Having arrived in Ulaanbaatar, you’ll transfer to the nearby Terelj National Park to spend a night in a traditional Mongolian Ger Camp, with both lunch and dinner included. After breakfast the following morning, you’ll head back to Ulaanbaatar with time at leisure to explore the city. The Zaisan Memorial, Gandan Khiid and Sukhbaatar Square, are amongst the sights you might want to explore.
