Arrive into Hong Kong before being transferred to your accommodation ahead of a welcome reception and dinner on the opening evening of your trip.

Take a tour of one of the most densely populated areas in the world from a number of different vantage points, travelling by ferry and bus before riding up Victoria Peak by tram to take in the stunning views of the city below. After a Dim Sum lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll pay a visit to the Hong Kong Museum of History before time in the evening to explore some of the shops and markets to be found in the city.

Leave Hong Kong behind to take a flight to Shanghai, with a transfer to your accommodation on arrival.

Explore the famous waterfront around your hotel on the Bund, with the chance to take a stroll around the Yu Gardens and to dine at the famous M on the Bund restaurant before an evening visit the critically acclaimed ERA Acrobats show. The following day you’ll have chance to see the future development plans for the city on a visit to the Shanghai Urban Planning Centre before exploring the traditional stone-gated shikumen homes to be found in the Xiantiandi neighbourhood.

Leave Shanghai by taking a flight to Yichang where you can board the Yangzi Explorer for the start of a four night cruise through the Three Gorges section of the Yangtze River.
Travel along the river to the Three Gorges Dam, where you can take a tour of the largest hydroelectric project on earth. You’ll then journey on to Xiling Gorge, which is longer than the other two parts of the Three Gorges added together. Today you will meet the Yangzi Explorers Captain and crew at the Captains welcome reception for an à la carte dinner and an entertaining show performed by the crew.
Your cruise along the river continues as you admire the riverside pagodas and temples before disembarking to take an excursion on the Shennong Stream onboard a traditional sampan. On rejoining the Yangzi Explorer, you’ll then head through the picturesque surroundings of the Wu and Quatang gorges. The following day you’ll have the chance to visit the ancient Ghost City of China, Fengdu, or the remote village of Wanzhou (depending on river conditions). You’ll also have the chance to meet people who were affected by the building of the Three Gorges Dam during a visit to a relocation village.
Depart the Yangzi Explorer in Chongqing to take a flight to Guilin, where you will then enjoy the chance to take a cruise along the Li River to observe fisherman at work on traditional bamboo rafts and to see village life first hand.

Take another flight as you leave Guilian to head for Xian, where you will have the chance to visit the Han Yang Ling Underground Mausoleum before heading for your overnight accommodation.

Today you’ll have the chance to visit arguably the main highlight of the area around Xian with a trip to marvel at the stunning Terracotta Warriors; a collection of sculptures depicting the army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang which stand guard over his tomb and which are regarded as of the most important archaeological excavations of the 20th century. You’ll have chance to view the statues and tour the museum to discover more, while you’ll also learn about plans for the preservation of the statues in a talk with museum staff members. You’ll then enjoy a traditional dumpling lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to the Shaanxi History Museum to learn the story of ancient Chinas feudal dynasties.

Take a flight from Xian to Beijing to spend time in the Chinese capital, starting with a lunch with a local expert who will be able to share their knowledge of the traditional narrow streets, or Hutongs, to be found throughout the city. You’ll then spend time with a local family in one of the traditional neighbourhoods before heading to your hotel.
Spend time exploring Beijing and the surrounding area, starting with the chance to spend time in Tiananmen Square before strolling around the Forbidden City – with the remainder of your first full day in the city then being spent at leisure. You’ll then pay a visit to the Badaling section of the Great Wall of China, with the chance to take a gondola ride to the top of the wall itself. There will also be the opportunity to explore the famous Summer Palace and enjoy a cruise onto Kunming Lake.

Head for the airport in Beijing to catch a flight for your journey home.
