Day 1: Arrive Hanoi
Arrive in Hanoi where you will be transferred to your hotel, with the remainder of the afternoon at leisure before a welcome dinner in the evening.

Day 2: Hanoi
Take a tour around Hanoi, starting with a visit to the Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh – the father of modern Vietnam. You’ll also have chance to admire the impressive One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature before a ride by rickshaw through the Old Quarter of the city and a traditional water puppet show to complete your day.

Day 3: Hanoi – Halong Bay
Leave Hanoi behind as you transfer to Halong ready to join a ship for a three day cruise around Halong Bay. Your trip will start with a cruise through the spectacular inlets around the bay before lunch onboard as you head towards Titop Island. You’ll then continue to the Bat Cave area to visit a huge floating fishing village before settling down for a night on the water.

Day 4: Halong Bay
Cruise out to Ngoc Vung Island where you can enjoy a relaxing bike ride through the forest, or simply relax on the sandy beaches. In the afternoon, you’ll then cruise to the Cua Van fishing village for an insight into local life.

Day 5: Halong Bay – Saigon
Visit the Surprise Cave before breakfast and then return to land for a transfer to the airport in Hanoi. Here you’ll board a flight to take you to Saigon, where the rest of the day will be at leisure once you’ve arrived at your hotel.

Day 6: Saigon
A series of optional tours are available to help you spend your time in the largest city in Vietnam, which now goes under the name of Ho Chi Minh. You could enjoy a tour of the city itself, or head out to Cu Chi to explore the network of tunnels created underground by members of the Viet Cong. You’ll then enjoy a degustation dinner back in Saigon with matching wines at the Xu Restaurant.

Day 7: Saigon – Mekong Cruise
Enjoy further time exploring Saigon, with the possibility of seeing more of the city either by cyclo or by motorbike. Later in the day, you’ll head for the mighty Mekong River to board your ship for the cruise towards Cambodia.

Day 8: Cai Be, Sa Dec
As you head along the water, you’ll stop to visit the French gothic cathedral in Cai Be, with further time to explore the colourful port before rejoining your ship to continue onwards to Sa Dec. On arrival, you’ll transfer to a small boat to ride through the floating markets before heading onto land to visit a local temple and to take a guided tour of the Huynh Thuy Le ancient house before returning to the water for the cruise towards Tan Chau.

Day 9: Tan Chau, Evergreen Island, Border Crossing
Leave your cruise ship to head into Tan Chau by small boat, before taking a tour by rickshaw to gain an insight into the Mekong way of life. The rest of your day will then be spent at leisure on your cruise ship as you head towards the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.

Day 10: Phnom Penh
Arrive in the capital and disembark after breakfast for a full day of exploration. You’ll be able to visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, so called because of the fact that more than 5,000 silver tiles line the floor. After lunch back on the ship, the afternoon will be spent exploring the troubled recent past of the country, firstly with a visit out to the infamous Killing Fields before heading for the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, located in a former Khmer Rouge prison, to learn about the atrocities carried out under the regime of Pol Pot.

Day 11: Phnom Penh, Koh Chen Village
Spend the morning exploring Phnon Penh at leisure before your cruise takes you to the remote village of Koh Chen, where you will be able to visit local workshops that specialise in making copper souvenirs.

Day 12: Oudong, Kampong Tralach
Travel to Oudong, where you’ll leave the ship to pay a visit to the former royal capital of Cambodia. You’ll then continue onwards to Kampong Tralach to visit the Wat Kampong Tralach Pleu pagodas. Your journey back to the ship through rice fields and a small village will be onboard a traditional ox-cart.

Day 13: Kampong Chhnang, Tonle Sap
The morning will see you head into the wetlands near Kampong Chhnang on a small-boat excursion before the cruise ship continues along the Mekong towards the Tonle Sap lake. As you draw closer to your destination, you’ll enjoy a farewell dinner onboard as you ready for the conclusion of your cruise.

Day 14: Siem Reap
With your cruise at an end, you’ll leave your cruise ship and head to Siem Reap and the gateway to the famous Angkor Temples. Your first day in the area will see you pay a visit to Angkor Thom; the last capital of the Khmer Empire. Here you’ll be able to explore what remains of the city, including the part of the city walls known as the Terrace of the Elephants.

Day 15: Siem Reap, Angkor Wat
Enjoy watching the sun rise over Angkor Wat on the penultimate morning of your trip, complete with a glass of champagne. You’ll then tour the most famous temple in the area, visit the remains of Ta Prohm and also call in at a grass-roots orphanage to meet local children. Your final night will then feature a farewell dinner alongside a Khmer performance of Apsara dancing.

Day 16:‘Freedom of Choice’ – Siem Reap departure
On your final day, you’ll be able to chose from a range of ‘Freedom of Choice’ activities, which include a visit to the Wat Preah Phrom Rath temple for a Buddhist blessing, a tuk-tuk ride to the Artisans d’Angkor workshop or a fun Apsara dance class to learn some of the moves you witnessed the previous night. You’ll then head for the airport for your return flight home.
