Day 1: Arrive Yangon
Arrive in Yangon before being transferred to your hotel in the former Burmese capital. You’ll then enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city, which will include the chance to take a walk around the colonial style city centre and visit the impressive Sule Pagoda and the huge reclining Buddha at Chauk Htat Kyi. After a visit to a local tea shop and a photo stop at the Karaweik Hall royal floating barge, the afternoon includes a visit to the spectacular Shwedagon Pagoda, which stands nearly 100 metres high and is covered with 60 tons of pure gold.

Day 2: Yangon – Bagan
Travel away from Yangon with a flight to the ancient city of Bagan, which is home to a large number of temples and pagodas on the plains around the Ayeyarwady River. Your time in the area will start with a visit to the Shwezigon Pagoda, seen as one of the most important monuments in the area, before heading for the cave temples of Gubyaukgyi. The afternoon is then set aside for a visit to a local craftman’s workshop before visiting a number of Bagan’s other temples – including Ananda Temple and the adjoining monastery and the 61 metre high 'Temple of Omniscience'. The day will then end with the chance to watch the sun go down amidst the impressive backdrop of Bagan’s ancient monuments.

Day 3: Bagan
Your day will start with a trip to the Nyaung Oo Market to see locals going about their morning business before a short walking tour to explore the Nanpaya and Manuha temples in nearby Myinkaba village. A trip to admire the Myazedi inscriptions is then followed by a visit to see how locals live in the area around the village of Minnanthu, where you will also visit a number of religious monuments – including Tayokepyay Temple and the 13th century murals at Nandamanya. The day will then draw to a close with a sunset cruise on the Ayeyarwaddy River before returning to your hotel.

Day 4: Bagan – Mandalay
Head to the airport for a flight to Mandalay, where a sightseeing tour will start with a visit to the Buddha image in the Mahamuni Pagoda. From there, you’ll continue onwards to the wooden monastery at Shwe-im-bin before a trip to numerous local workshops to see a selection of products being made. In the afternoon, you’ll head for the Kuthodaw Pagoda to see the ‘world’s largest book’ – a collection of 729 marble slabs containing Buddhist scriptures – before a visit to the Shwenandaw Monastery and the Kyaukdawgyi Pagoda.

Day 5: Mandalay – Amarapura:
From Mandalay, you’ll hit the road towards Ava, located located on an island between the Ayeyarwady and the Myitnge Rivers. A local ferry will take you to the island where horse cart and driver awaits to take you on a trip inside the ancient city walls to visit the brick and stucco monastery of Maha Aungmye Bonzan and the wooden monastery of Bagaya Kyaung. If time permits, visit some village homes to see local handicrafts such as silk weaving, cane mats and alms bowls. In the afternoon you’ll visit picturesque Sagaing; regarded by many as the living centre of Buddhist faith in modern day Myanmar. You’ll then return across the Ayeyarwady River to the third former capital, Amarapura and pay a visit to Mahagandayon monastery before a sunset stroll on U Bein Bridge; believed to be the longest teak bridge in the world.

Day 6: Mandalay – Inle Lake
Fly to Heho before travelling onwards to Nyaung Shwe on the edge of the Inle Lake. After a visit to the Shwe Yan Pyay monastery you’ll board a private boat to head out onto the water to cruise on one of the most spectacular sights in the country. Passing by stilted villages and floating vegetable gardens, you’ll visit the holiest religious site in the area – the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda – as well as a local boat workshop, while also having the opportunity to stop off at Inpawkon village to explore local crafts. If time allows, you can take a stroll through a local village before the cruise back across the lake to your hotel, admiring the stunning sunset in the process.

Day 7: Inle Lake – Yangon
If your tour falls on market day, you’ll visit one of the five day markets before heading by boat to Indaing, passing through the stilted village of Yawama en-route. A walk through the village will allow you to see the Nyuang Ohak ruins and the Shwe Inn Thein Paya complex before returning to your long-tailed boat to travel back down the network of canals to the lake. You’ll later travel by boat to Nyaungshwe before heading for the airport in Heho for a flight to Yangon.

Day 8: Yangon departure
Depending on the time of your departure flight, you could take the chance to visit the local markets in Yangon or take a ride on the Yangon Circle Train before heading for the airport for your flight home.
