Day 1: Cape Town – Oudtshoorn

Departing from Cape Town, your South Africa tour begins with a journey through the Little Karoo – a semi-desert region hemmed in by three spectacular mountain ranges – towards the historic spa town of Montagu. En route, you’ll stop in the peaceful village of Barrydale, where you will have the opportunity to interact with children and teachers at a local farm school and learn all about the area’s farming community. Continuing east for a few more hours, you’ll arrive at your final destination of the day, Oudtshoorn – once the ostrich capital of the world – where you’ll spend the night at the boutique La Plume Guest House.

    Day 2: Oudtshoorn - Knysna

After breakfast, you’ll head to the spectacular Cango Caves at the foothills of the Swartberg range. One of the country’s preeminent tourist attractions, these fascinating limestone formations, with their extensive system of tunnels and chambers, have been sculpted by nature over millions of years. You’ll return to Oudtshoorn for a light lunch and a tour of an ostrich farm before making your way over the scenic Outeniqua Pass to George – the largest town on the famous Garden Route. A meandering scenic drive over rivers and gorges will then bring you to the charming town of Knysna. Situated on the edge of an almost impossibly-blue lagoon, and surrounded by ancient forest, Knysna is known as the oyster capital of South Africa – so if you’re travelling between May and September, be sure to try some at one of the town’s many waterfront restaurants.

    Day 3: Knysna

Your morning will begin with a relaxing cruise across the lagoon towards the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Here, you can take a nature walk along forested coastline, or enjoy a trailer ride to the top of the Western Head and discover spectacular panoramic views. Returning to Knysna, you’ll enjoy lunch under the milkwood trees, and in the afternoon you’ll be free to explore this idyllic town at your leisure.

    Day 4: Knysna – Albertina

After a leisurely breakfast, you’ll travel via George and Mossel Bay to Albertinia – a settlement at the foot of the majestic Langeberg Mountains, fondly referred to as the home of the Aloe. Your afternoon will be spent trying to get a glimpse of the Big Five – as well as spotting an abundance of other wildlife – on safari at a private game reserve.

    Day 5: Albertina – Hermanus

You’ll get another chance to encounter local wildlife today on an early morning, open-vehicle game drive with an experienced ranger. Following your safari adventure, you’ll journey west to the picturesque town of Swellendam. Dating back to 1745, Swellendam is one of the oldest towns in South Africa. It’s famed for its rich heritage, beautiful Cape Dutch architecture, and the many local farms growing youngberries. From here you will journey on to the seaside resort of Hermanus – generally considered the best land-based whale-watching destination in the world.

Day 6: Hermanus – Cape Town

The last day of your tour will be spent journeying through centuries-old vineyards. After a relaxed breakfast, your first stop will be the spectacular valley of Franschhoek, where French Huguenots settled more than 300 years ago, bringing their vines and world-famous cuisine with them. A local guide will take you on a tour through Franschhoek village, sharing the fascinating history of the French Huguenots and the Huguenot Memorial Museum. A short drive will then take you back to Cape Town, where the tour ends on arrival.
