On the west coast of Southern Africa, Namibia serves up deep-red sand dunes, stretching deserts, eerie coastlines, and animal-filled plains. Our Namibia tours help you have an adventure of a lifetime, with everything taken care of.
You can discover the country’s natural wonders, including deep canyons, sparkling salt pans, and some of the highest sand dunes in the world. Explore Namibia’s historical and cultural side when you see Neolithic rock art in Twyfelfontein and the German colonial buildings of the capital city, Windhoek.
And let’s not forget about the diverse wildlife. You can observe elephants, zebras and black rhinos in the craggy Etosha National Park. And see whales and dolphins gliding through Walvis Bay on the aptly-named Skeleton Coast, where old shipwrecks creak on the shores.
Whatever you’re seeking from a Namibia tour, you’ll find it on one of our itineraries. Whether you prefer the freedom of a self-drive or independent tour, or you’d prefer to embark on an escorted tour with a knowledgeable guide, we’ll make sure your trip to Namibia is one you’ll never forget.
Sossusvlei is Namibia’s most famed landscape, with rust-red sand dunes, white pans and blue skies. The dunes are impressively some of the highest in the world, looming at an enormous 325 metres. The dunes were created by sand being blown over from the coast – and the sand in Sossusvlei is an incredible five million years old. The teeny tiny grains are coated in a super-thin layer of iron oxide, which gives the dunes their distinctive red hue.
The highest dune is appropriately named ‘Big Daddy’ which, if you’re up for a challenge, you can climb. From the top, you’ll be able to admire the surreal views of Dead Vlei – a white pan containing dark fossils of camelthorn trees. And you can brag about your success to friends and family back home – or even in your tour group.
Ready for more remarkable nature? Well, you’ll find it in Namibia. One of our favourite spots is the epic Fish River Canyon in the far south of the nation. It’s the second-largest canyon in the world, after the Grand Canyon in the United States.
At the base of the canyon, the Fish River tumbles over rocks, twisting and turning. The rich waters of the river attract a variety of birdlife, too, including the Egyptian Goose, the Goliath Heron and the Abdim’s Stork. Explore this amazing site with an early morning hike along the canyon, and be wowed by the panoramic views from the top.
Undeniably stunning and surprisingly quiet, Namibia offers a significantly different safari experience compared to its neighbours of Botswana and South Africa. Indeed, this difference is what draws many people to the county in the first place.
Etosha National Park is where you’ll have the best opportunity to see Namibia’s ‘Big Five’ – lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and African buffalo. You might even catch sight of the highly endangered African wild dogs, if you're lucky. Be sure to take in one of Namibia’s magical sunsets after a day of wildlife spotting.
Damaraland is another must-visit for wildlife-lovers. You’ll find it tucked in-between the Skeleton Coast and Etosha National Park. You can track wild rhinos roaming the area, hike up to Brandberg Mountain to see the famous White Lady Bushman painting, and embark on an early morning game drive to see wildlife in its natural habitat. Don’t forget to check out the petrified forest, too, which is a pretty weird and wonderful landscape.
While Namibia isn’t famed for its coastlines, it’s actually an excellent choice for beach-lovers. You can chill out and relax, or search for more wildlife.
Cape Cross is renowned for its vast seal colony. While these fish-eaters do have a rather strong aroma, the sight of all the seals flopping around together on the sand is one you won’t forget. Lose yourself in the noisy hustle and bustle of activity, as you watch the seals from the comfort and privacy of a spacious jetty.
For some downtime, head to the beautiful Solitude Beach, otherwise known as Farilhao Bay. Unwind in the peaceful, rustic atmosphere and enjoy a welcome break after all that exploring. The long stretches of unspoilt beach are ideal for gentle walks, sunbathing and picnicking. Many parts of the beach are shut off to vehicles, too, so you can be sure of maximum peace and quiet.
